I've slugged this chamber now 4 times, and get the following.
The throat at the case mouth is .3092"
Rifling groove diameter is .3065"
Land diameter is less than .300", a .300" bullet nose engraves clearly.
I have never been able to measure a slug for land diameter.
All 311/314299 bullets must be seated so that less than 1/32" of the top band is out of the mouth, and the GC is well below the case neck.
I think the barrel should be throated, so I bought a barrel nut wrench and am waiting for a barrel vise.
Or, I could shoot it as I did with the Striker, and let the throat and lands erode.
Thoughts?

When you go to loosen the bbl nut use a dead blow hammer on the wrench. Also use rosin on the action.

Doesn't sound to me like you need to work on it.

If you've any of the front band of a 3211299 out of a 308 case it's not deep seated. Your bottom grease grove isn't exposed. Sure the gas check isn't held in by the case neck but so what. With a 311672 You'd have to load it with the top grease exposed to bring the gas check into the neck and it was designed for the 308. With the 1/32 front band out of the case as you stated you are right at new rifle spec as I read them. If I were you I'd just start busting caps. If you are worried about gas checks falling off then single shot load the rifle. Even though recoil does not push them off it may make you feel better. I run sleds in my bolt gun mags anyway except for my big game rifle. AKA safe queen.

thats pretty small of a nose for the 314,mine is closer to 304.
i think i'd try a different boolit if yours isn'r shooting well.
one with a bit less nose and maybe more bearing length

I forgot to mention that that .300" nose is on a 314299 that's swaged down in a Joe Wiest swage/bump die, that works just great.

The nose on my 314299 is .302 with a 5 to 1 ww/lino mix. Same mix on my 311291 nose goes .301. Neither boolit even tries to enter that little short throat. If I go straight lino (I have plenty) it might go. I have been looking for info on shooting exposed base cast boolits in this rifle. I feel a little more confident now after reading these posts but will still check each shot to make sure the Hornady GC cleared the bbl. Hey, I can use my extendable mechanics inspection mirror and not remove the bolt even. Looks like straight lino would be less likely to deform. I'll try to report back next week, if I don't catch a bolt with my eyeball. ps. With 175 SMK's this baby will shoot 5 shot 1/2 moa @ 100 yds with a chicom scope and a trigger jerking deranged derelict on the back end.
