Any one casting for this? Both have a 1 in 10 twist. I.ve had the pistol barrel for time now and it likes the RCBS 30 150 FN with 14 gr.Reloader 7. The rifle barrel is new and have only just begun testing. So far it seems to like the RCBS 30 165 sil and 10.8 gr. 2400. The 1 in 10 twist suggests a longer boolit that was originaly used. Pistol shoots MOA @ 100, 200 and 300 yards. I only have 50 yards out back and the rifle is giving between .67" and .78" 5 shot groups. Most of the shooting was for the break in period. Like I said i've only just begun load testing. Any insights?

MOA at 100 yards? I am interested in this caliber in a TC for lead bullets. I only shoot at 100 yards. If you go to the range, would you please shoot five 5-shot groups at 100 yards and tell me the group sizes?
Thanks;
joe b.

I tried some bullets from Leadhead's which appear to be the RCBS 165. They show a great deal of promise. I put 10 in less than 2" at 70 yds with my 10" barrel. This was with the first powder charge I tried, which I don't recall now, but was around 10 grains of 4227.

In Contender or BF falling block with >308 bore and 1-10 twist I have achieved MOA a goodly number of times using 165 RCBS SIL, 180 SP RCBS, 200 lee, and other boolits from 165 to 200. All with 9 1/2 gr of AA#9 {AKA WC820} and small rifle primers. DO NOT USE THESE LOADS IN A OLDER RIFLE OR A REVOLVER. These are higher pressure loads intended for modern single shot pistols and rifles such as Contenders, BF's, MOA's, RPM XL's, and others designed for higher pressures. My wife has been using that funny looking 311644 Ly 190 in her BF for NRA long range sillywet and does well, Knocks the 200 meter rams off on a regular basis.

Ditto to what PB posted. I am playing with the same pair he has, TC and a BF. I am using the RCBS 165, and I believe it is the old SAECO RG-4? AA#9 as well.
Fourarmed, keep any of those small culls out of the RG4 and give them a try in the 30-20.

PB, have you tried any type of plain base in either of these? I am thinking in a reduced load and subsonic, who needs a GC?

I like the Seaco 117gr BB Jeff with 7 gr of AA#7. I guess mainly because I have a 4 cavity mould and can pound a pile of them out in no time. For the BF I run them through a 308 Lee sizer and tumble lube. The BF has a match chamber and won't accept anything over 308. The contender in 30-20 and 32H&R I shoot as cast and TL, they drop out of the mould at .310. I have seen a lot of Contender bbl's in these two chamberings, some will shoot cast extremly well, others won't do good at all, but they'll all shoot the J bullets. One thing about a BF, it's harder to find something that don't shoot then it is to find something that does.

Thanks for your input. When it quits raining I'll sure try some of your suggestions. I will let you all know what happens.

Jeff,
I cast about 500 of the RG-4 in straight linotype. Seems to run about .3085 on the driving bands. I will be trying them in the contender, and maybe the 1917 and the 03A1. I'm not going to bother trying them in the 721 '06 unless I scope it. It shoots too well already to try to improve it with iron sights. Hmm, maybe the HOLLAND would like 'em. I'll bring the mold to Wmsburg. Thanks.

So what does everyone use in the way of reloading dies for the 30-20.

I bought a 30-20, 20" bull barrel for the TC back in Jan.

Have'nt done anything with it or to it yet.

Thanks and Good luck

I use a Lee Loader for my 32-20 also 45-70 and 38-55. Use Sinclair inline loader for my .222. Only revolvers and autos get the dillion. :)

I use Redding dies for a 30-20. Stay away from nickel case if you can, they spilt necks faster and scratch the dies in my opinion.
