I was out shooting my Arisaka Type 99 today. I've shot it once before with Norma rounds and it functioned fine. Today I used CB (with the Norma brass) and with each shot I could feel hot gasses blow against my forehead.

The brass was heavily tarnished after the shot as well....
What does that indicate?

Light loads? I cured the same problem in my .357 and 45-70 by raising the presssure, so the case sealed the chamber. I also noticed a lot less of it after the cases were formed to my chamber.

Yep, light loads don't seal the cases against the chamber wall. That happens to me whenever I shoot a Mauser with those light 1970s steel cased 8mm Romanian export loads as well.

Ahhhh!!!

I was only using the starting load of 16 gr of 2400!! That was probably my problem!

Thanks guys!!!

you can leave enough of the neck flair in place to block those gasses too.
it takes a bit of sperimenting but you get the idea.

Yes. Light pressure will give you a wonderfully puff of warm air. My Type 99s did the same until I bumped up the loads.
