45ACP 230gr Ball Mini buy

The thread has morphed.
NOE is offering a "mini buy" on existing mould designs.
The 230ball is an 'existing' one. On mini buys we can only use one boolit design, the 230ball seemed to be the more popular, check out the last thread to get upto speed on the buy.

Anyone interesed in a 230gr RN 'ball' type mould or a 200 SWC for the 45 acp?

Choices will include 1,2,3,4,5,8 or 10 cavity mould.

Mix and match cavities.

If you want a 4C and 2 of the 230gr RN and 2 of the 200gr SWC, no problem.

The RG2 and RG4 moulds are also avialable.

I was thinking about getting a 230gr RN in the RG4 (the HP option on NOE's moulds) with the flat point pins and the HP pins. The FP would allow me to make boolit similar to the BD45 and the HP's well, they'd be HP's. A nice big wide one for easy expansion at 45acp velocity.

What do you think? any takers?

I've already spoken to NOE about this and there are NO minimum orders of moulds to buy! ON THIS ONE. :)

i want similar to commercial....
0.453/4 or so body, single lube groove, and then a small step down to the rn radius.

.666 oal, .453/4 od( to size to 452/3), 0.340 length body, step down to 0.440
( original boolit has bb...but i can live without or with)

i may have missed this in a gb, but am looking now.

I'm in for a 10 hole 230rn and a RG4 also in the RN style. I second following the USGI profile, if possible. What will a 230 profile HP weigh, around 215??? S/F.....Ken M

happy7, I am VERY pleased with the RG2! I have never cast so many GOOD HP boolits so fast with little or no effort! I will definitely want more of this in my inventory! Plus you can trade out the Pins for diff configurations of HP's or Flat points or what ever!

I have found that the pins can easily be heated from the bottom. I just set it on top of my pot and the pins are heated from the bottom and the heat travels up towards the top of the pin. No need for "torch" heating the pin tip anymore!

The 10 cavity would be double sided I take it? How about the HG68 or HG130 clone for the SWC?

yes the 8 and 10C are double sided.

the HG68's and HG130's I thought have been beat to death here recently so I thought I'd give it a rest. :)

i have the lee 225 like you are running....but cannot get a reasonable oal...must shoot it short because of the throat on one gun.

if the rg4 is the hp mold with pins that can be flipped over for a standard bullet then id be in for a 4 cavity with two swc and two round nosed.

Lloyd, the RG mould you cannot "flip" the pins, but you can change pins.

The pins would make the boolits a flat point not the round nose on the 230gr "ball", and the 200gr SWC would be "normal".

I'm trying to wrap my head around this one too. Is there video somewhere of one in action? I picture it as pour side 1 flip, pour side 2, cut sprue on side one then side 2 and drop?

basically fill one side, flip fill other side, and cut BOTH sprue's at once, drop boolits, close sprue's repeat.

For water quenching does the 10 holer cause a broad range of hardnesses (which I presume would be undesirable)?

I'd think no more than an old H&G 10cavity, but that's just speculation. Plus it's a 45acp pistol boolit, how much perfection do you need?

Just to clarify, as I've been using the wrong normanclature. I've been calling it the "230gr ball" when it really doesn't wt 230gr but is a copy of the military ball we are familiar with.
