I figure this has been hashed out elsewhere, but what are the relative merits of truncated cone designs compared to round nosed or RN-Flat point styles. And a related question - which is likely to feed better in a semi auto pistol. I'm thinking of 9mm. As I'm writing this, it occurs to me that it would also depend on the boolit's purpose, such as self-defense, hunting, plinking, serious target work, etc.

From a purely aesthetics standpoint, I favor the round nosed styles, but if the TC's have any great advantages, I'd consider them.

Nothing feeds like a RN bullet in any semiuato. I seem to get better acuracy w/ TC bullets though. I think it's their longer bearing surface.

The TC also have the flattened nose to help punch holes in paper, instead of just tearing through it. So far I like them all for one purpose or another.

I don't know the reason but TCs will feed in my brother's Glock 26 while my 9mm RNs will not. He likes them better because they are free. Later Don

TC's feed as well as RN in my pistols. Semi-wadcutters do as well, when the seating depth is tweaked to the specific pistol.

I like TCs in both 9mm and .45 ACP. No feeding problems here.

My XD-45 feeds RN and TC flawlessly, but will not feed SWC at all. I chose the TC in 230 gr (the Lee TL boolit). It is accurate, cuts nice holes, and is easy to cast and lube.

I don't know that one type is more effective than the other. Neither is great for hunting/defense, but I'd just see which feeds better. If both feed in your guns then go for the deign that pleases you most, either by accuracy or aesthetics or ease of casting, whatever.

I have shot many Lee 124gr TC on my 9mm, never had feeding problems! The round nose which I shoot now also work without problems.

I did however encounter a mysterious problem about a year ago! I bought 3000 Hornady 120gr TMJ TC. A had many feeding problems with that one. And it didn't matter which COL I tried, 1 in 10 would go sideways up the loading ramp. I compared the bullets to some of the Lee TC I had. The cone angle is slightly more steep on the Lee, but it can't have been more than a few degrees... but it was obviously a few degrees too many.... go figure!

I love the TC design for 10mm and .45 ACP. Have a Slippery mold for the 9mm but can't shoot it in the P7 (gas system). TC feeds well, is accurate, and cuts paper well.

Another vote for the TC. Feeds well in all my 9's
