Well I did a search and looked under articles by members and still I have not found directions on how to beagle a mould.
Would someone be so kind as to enlighten me.
I do have one other question. Why do I get flash (wings)on the parting lines of my bullets. Lee 2 cavity 190 gr 30 cal.
Thanks in advance

If you have wings the mold halves probably aren't closing. Hold the mould up to the light.
Look for any burrs and such that would prevent closing. Sounds like you may already be beagled.

I agree. You probably have something holding the blocks open. holding the mould up to a bright light while closed will tell. If you can see light between the mould halves then something is wrong. Look for lead embeded into one of the block faces or a burr.

2 cavity Lee? Probably starting to get some sticking on the alignment surfaces and holding things open. They're notorious for galling. Try lubing them VERY lightly with some high temp anti-seize until you can get some Bullplate lube (see the Bullshop link down the page). Lee recommends beeswax but it tends to get everywhere you don't want it to be. I have masked the cavity area off and used spray graphite as well with good results. Part of the joys of Lee single & double cavity molds.

Yep, the only reason to get "wings" is something is holding the halves open. I dropped one of my molds, and of course it landed on an inside surface corner. Making a nice dent in the aluminum, which in turn, held the halves open. I did not see it at first, until i cast with it. Then it was obvious something was wrong. I had to remove the safety glasses, and put on reading glasses to see it. A little quick file work, and it was good to go again.

Well I checked and I found they had more burrs than a coon dog in a briar patch. : )
What is the best way to remidy this? Should I lap or beagle?
When I do get lead on the surface of my moulds what is the proper way to eliminate it. I have used bore brushes on steel but aluminum is softer.
Also what surfaces should I lube.
So much to learn and so little time.

I too have been looking for instructions on Beagling Moulds. I could not find it anywhere on our site and was referred to www.castpics.com (http://www.castpics.com) , but could not find it there either.

I know have it bookmarked...Thanks!

some of the new molds that came out a couple months ago have a large gap between the blocks. I have 2 new Lee molds that get wings if the lead is above 700.
