I’d like to kick out the idea of a group buy for a six cavity 30 cal mould. I’ve been using a Lee C309-170-F for the past few years to cast boolits for my 30-30 and 308. The mold works well in my rifles but it’s only a single cavity. I’m not stuck on this particular design. Anything in the 170 to 200 grain range. My only requirement is that it’s a flat nose so it can be used in tubular magazines.

John,

First off, welcome aboard sir.

As for a .30 cal. mold along the lines of your description, their was a group buy in the not too distant past. It was for a copy of Lymans #311041.

Not for sure, but perhaps another board member can point you towards any current group buys that may fit your need.

Actually? The Lyman #311041 may be due for a second run in the furture sometime.

Respectfully,

Murphy

I've gone "tumble lube" crazy and I'm waiting on my Lee TLC311-165-RF, should be here any day...

RD;
Was that a "group buy" or a run of 1? Interesting design, and if it comes up for sale in a 6 banger, I'd be interested.

I've bought four to run the design through all it's paces including pressure trace work and hunting (test media is feral hogs... much more accurate than wet phone books :Fire: ).

When I get it up and running, I will post the data here and wouldn't mind honchoing a group buy for a six-holer! My TLC designs are for anyone that wants to use them as my only intent in this work is to convince Lee of the need for proper diameter and weight bullets for levergun hunting. With the increasing interest in levergun shooting, particularly with cast bullets because of cowboy action matches, hunting with your levergun follows. It would be great to have the proper bullets molds available so that a fellow doesn't need to go through the custom mold order process. Lee is in a great position to provide the product. Why the TLC design, simple boolits for simple guns!

I truly don't have any other interest in these mold designs. I've spent a lot of money working on them for my personal use but I've been rewarded with some great hunting bullets! I've found Lee great to work with and they are seeing my success with the bullets. I live on a ranch with some great hunting and Lee gets a lot of pictures of my success! Last week they had a fellow contact me that wanted TLC molds for the 7-30 Waters and 32 Win Spl. I believe I got him setup with some nice boolits!

Now that's an interesting boolit. I'm like JohnAZ--churning out the C309-170Fs one-at-a-time. Boy they're fun to shoot with 8.5 grains of Unique. :Fire: I've been looking for a rancher who needs to get rid of some hogs up near the metroplex. Not easy to find one who doesn't want to charge me an arm and a leg up here--I guess it's all those Dallas rich bugs willing to part with their cash. Heck; that's a big reason why :castmine:

Looking forward to seeing the test results on your design. Please be sure to post them!

I will get a report out. A fellow, 6pt-Sika, will be shooting it also.

Normally, I'd say come on down and let's show a hog what a cast boolit looks like but this drought has got us and the critters in a bind. I went out this evening but they are few and far between.

Ranch Dog, hope the boolit works out well. If it works well I would go in on a group by for it. If not another run on the Lyman #311041 would be good too. I'm open to any good flat point six cavity.

Hi JohnAz,

I’ve been using a Lee C309-170-F also. I've had great success with it in my 30-30 Contender.

I'd be interested in a 6-cavity for this one!

I too would be very interested in a 6 banger for my NEF survivor .308!

So, is there any possibility of this taking off?

It seems about time to do the Lyman #311041, or the Lee C309-170-F.

The second run for the C358-180RF is already above the needed 25 molds.

Thanks,
Greg

I have a 1-shooter Lee 150 & 190 & like the idea of a 6-holer. That 190 grainer is a real honey! Fat on the nose & real good in my .30-30's & '06's. 170 is good too.

I am really interested in your Lee TLC311-165-RF design. I would love to get my hands on one of these molds. What is the "as cast" diameter? How fast do you push them? I am in need of a plain base, tumble lube mold. Thanks Randy.

I don't know if the original intent of this thread was for a PB or not? But, I had thoughts on a PB design. If all interested here were after a PB, maybe we could combine our efforts and thoughts together?

I myself am wanting a PB 6 banger, as I have a couple of guns I fool with that don't drive that fast or have the need to drive that fast. Thus the reason for a PB and to give Felix a well deserved rest on the GC GB.

I would go for the plain-base also. I have already the 311041 & the 311407 gascheck designs. Any more would just confuse me.

RanchDog, have you got any results to report about your Lee TLC311-165-RF mold? The suspense is killing me, I like that bullet. Randy.
