Preparing to shoot the 314299 boolit in my No. 1 MKIII- gaschecked, sized .314, liquid alox lubed. Reading cast bullets sometimes shoot best contacting the rifling, I checked the rifle with the Stoney Point (Hornady) length gauge. With the boolit touching the rifling it is so far forward that there is almost nothing left to be held by the case neck. I have not experienced this with any of my other (civilian) rifles in .222, .223, 7mm-08,and 7mm Rem Mag. WHAT GIVES???

Many Mil-Surp rifles have VERY LONG throats !

Not my 1st time to see that..............

And the next thing you will need to find out is if the .314 diameter is too small for your bore. Some of the .303's are rather generous.

I have inserted the boolit nose first into the muzzle and only the rounded portion-ogive- enters, so I think I will be OK.

What can be done to optimize accuracy with a long throat?

I think you are just fine. Crimp in the top crimp groove and go to the range.

I shoot that boolit - exact same as you describe going 2000 fps and get excellent results.

Don't make things too hard... try it first. You may be surprised.

I got decent groups (6") using some Norma 77 grain jacketed in my Swede M38.

Short story... you won't know til you try it.

If it was going into one of my number ones , that .314" slug would be rattleing all over the place .

See what it does and make the needed corrections , since the nose fits you can't be to far off from having it work OK .
