Since buying a new BFR this summer custom crafted in .45 colt it seems that one thing after another has gotten in my way and kept me out of the gravel pit. Today I went out with a selection of loads ranging from 265 gr gc to 340 gr tc's. It was a truly eye opening experience. I got out of shooting and reloading 19 rears ago and there were no sources in my world for truly heavy cast lead slugs for reloading when I was actively shooting. All loads with the 340 gr. Penn's and Leadhead 310 LFN bullets were loaded with H110 and CCI mag. primers. The 265 gr. LBT gc. were loaded with old 2400 and Fed. LP. All loads were very accurate and the 310 with 23.5 gr. gets the nod for deer hunting this fall. The 340 gr. with 25.5 gr. will be in our tent at night when my wife and I are camping in bear country. I truly love this gun and reloading .45 colt ammo. Can't believe I ever quit all those years ago.

Custom BFR. That's got to be good. I'll bet your gun is pretty accurate. By the way, you sure about that 340 grn load?

By the way, you sure about that 340 grn load?Very sure every load I shot dropped from the cylinder the same and none of the primers showed any sign of over pressure. By the way I can not over emphasize the fact that there was none I mean zero leading in the barrel. The 265 and 310 gr. slugs are Veral Smith designs and thats what I'll cast if I ever get around to it, the 340 gr. slugs are JD Jones and were some what of a disapointment for me.

Odis, may I ask, what is the length of your cartridge with the 340 boolit?

Odis, may I ask, what is the length of your cartridge with the 340 boolit?I will have to measure it. The 310 gr. is an LBT design and seated to the crimp groove is longer than the SSK designed 340, both will fit into a Ruger black hawk cylinder which is shorter than the BFR. The LBT design leaves alot of room in the case for powder. odis
