I have been looking for a target load for my Marlin 30-30 using Lee's 309-113 FNGC. Plan on using it in our next lever action match, if I can make this little soupcan work with my micro-groove Marlin. They weigh in at 119 grains and measure on the big side of .310. I've got Green Dot, Unique, H4198, Reloader 7, AA2200, 5744, 3031, BL-C2 and a few others.

Any suggestions on a starting point?

15.5 of 2400.

go up or down as needed, but might be a starting point.

Lyman Cast Bullet Manual lists 13.5 - 21.2 with their 311441 115 grain CGC boolit.

I have no idea about the performance of these loads, they are just in the manual

Green Dot
7.5 1430 10.5 1738 38600 CUP

Unique
7.5 1480 11.4 1913 36400 CUP

RX7
20.0 1626 33.5 2585 29400 CUP

Thanks TCLouis... but I don't have any 2400.

I've got Green Dot, Unique, H4198, Reloader 7, AA2200, 5744, 3031, BL-C2 and a few others.

UG, Ed Harris' load for 150gr.+ .30cal. CB's was 16grs. 2400 (Hercules) in cases larger than the .30-30Win., so I think TC Louis' 15.5gr. starting load is much too high, even if you don't have that powder. I'd suggest 7gr. -10gr. Unique as a better choice.

I use the same mould, I use 25gr Ball-C lot2.

But then I am selling my Marlin in favor of the Winie 94 barrel

I'd be tempted to try the Green Dot at about 8 or 9 grains which would give you about 1500 to 1600 fps. Be careful for bridging in the measure.

I know it's not on your list, but I'd also be tempted to try Herco (another one of the 'sleeper' powders no one talks much about).

I get excellent results with Unique, though I use a heavier bullet. (10.2 gr unique, 174 gr cast flat point gas check).

Between Unique, Green Dot, and BL-C(2), Ive got a pretty good selection to start with. I also found a reference to 18.0 grains of RL-7, which I'll add into the mix.

Thanks!
