I`m looking for a good hunting bullet for my .44 mag with a wide meplat, for hunting wild boar. Between 250-300gr. where can I find a good mold? I`ll be shooting them through my S&W 629. I have a 250gr RCBS SWC-K that I do my target and play work with. But I don`t know if that would be a good hunting bullet.

Since feral hogs are taken with everything from .22rf to .458 Win., I would think the SWC you are used to would be your best choice.
If you really need a heavier bullet with a WIDE meplat, check out the Lee C430-310RF.
I have it and use it in my Handi rifle.

Your RCBS bullet will do just fine..you need no other.

Leadlum,

I think you will be just fine. But if you don't want to trust opinions, you could try some penetration / expansion testing just so you know that you mix will hold together. Believe me, there is no greater level of confidence gained than when you see it for yourself and make your own adjustments.

That's my favorite "all around" .44 missile too. Should work fine on hogs, cast fairly hard, I would think...

I have the 310 gr Lee mould on order but haven't shot any of it's boolits yet....

I'm expecting to try 'em on a hog too asap...

(and hopefully a 6x6 elk in the next year or two once I move outta Kalifornia for points north....)

FWIW,

Dennis

PS: The RCBS 225 gr GC boolit is a fine one accuracy-wise in my Ruger too, although light for hogs I imagine....

I would use what you have and know. I use a 240 grn rnfp cast out of WW for black bear with no problem.

The meplats on a good Keith, Lee or LBT are very close to the same size and all work fine. Your choice will depend on the weight boolit you need. Personally, I like the heavy weights for hunting, 300 and up.

Another vote for the Lee 310 GC. Probably more weight and penetration than you need for wild boar, but an excellent boolit. I've used the Lyman 429421 on deer with good results.
