7mm RB rebarrel

I picked up a nice looking 7mm rolling block rifle. The wood and metal is in great shape for a hundred year old military rifle, but apparently it had some chamber corrosion in the past. The chamber is no longer corroded but is scarred badly enough that fired rounds don't extract without a little persuasion from a cleaning rod.

I'm looking at options because I like the rifle and she deserves to be more than a wall-hanger.

Who does rebarreling for one of these and how much would it cost? I'd like to keep the caliber, but I'm flexible there, too.

I have been shooting the No. 5 Rem RB since a teen (over 40 yrs) and love the 7mm
caliber. Sorry that your chamber is gone. If you have a new blank from Douglas
turned to match the contour and put the sights back on, you'd have a tack driver.
My old stock rifle with a barrel that LOOKS like it would be REALLY marginal will
shoot 1" groups at 100 yds with 175 gr RN Hornady jbullets.

Good luck on finding an experienced gunsmith, but when you do you can have
a really good rifle. Just no hotrodding. The No. 5 is fine with std 7mm Mauser
loads, but you really don't want to do anything at the max. The biggest issue
is that the RB action does not handle gas from a ruptured case at all well, basically
the gas has no good vents and LOTS of surface area to work on and opens the
action up like a tin can. Plenty strong for normal loads, but don't use marginal
brass or hot loads.

I just happened to think that you might find someone to reline that original
barrel. This would keep the exterior appearance, patina, sights and markings
original and give you a whole new working interior with proper dimensions
and harder steel.
