Seems as though Hornady uses that trick a lot.
Their 45 70 cases are too short to be useful. That would be the ones that come with the leverevolution bullets. I would be cautious of any Hornady cases.

could it be that only the factory ammo (evolution ) has these short case and the one sold to reloader are correct?

I do believe that the 450 cases are still normal length. It's the 45-70 cases that were shortened for the new Leverevolution ammo. The 458 gummy tip was designed for the 450 throat, which is approximately 0.200 long. The 45-70 typically has almost no throat, maybe 0.040 to 0.060". To use the same bullet in the 45-70, they had to make a choice. Stuff it in the case deeper, which messed up the cannelure position, make two different bullets (cost), or shorten the 45-70 case.

Knowing Marlin as I do, it would never occur to them to fix the gun first and retro fit any for guys that want to shoot the new bullets. All of them have always been a pain to fit boolits to. Like some revolver makers will never make a longer frame or cylinder for ever larger cases.

I'm quite sure Marlin doesn't want to do a factory recall on every existing 45-70 out there to put a throat in them just so their new ammo works with 2.10" cases. You'll always get some yahoo that would try to jam a longer round in an unmodified gun then call a lawyer. Better rethink that one Dad.

My friend took somme 444 and shortened them to spec from hornady to load the FTX bullet but when it was time to crimp them the seating die even against the shell holder was to long making it impossible to crimp
the only solution was to cut the die a quartar inche
mmmmm not to good

Well I stand corrected.

If they had to shorten both 450 and 45-70, someone didn't do their homework.
