Really strange but my new mold/boolits won't group and and can'tfigure why.
I've been casting a H&G 148 (button top) for over 30 years but made the change for the new master caster and dillon 650 figuring it would be quicker and i wouldn't be giving anything up.
i'm using the standard 3.1gr of 231 but used WW instead of range scrap. would the harder ead be the problem?
Thanks

Might not be obturating as they're harder.. how bad did the groups get? Assuming you didn't size them too small by mistake..

sized my standard 358 and grouped about 8" at 25yds. I thought i was having a very bad day so i tried it off a rest and felt better lol that it wasn't me. i then shot my m-52 load of rem 148gr hbwc and group was the standard 1"
very strange.

Check how much the Dillon expander is opening your brass.
A change in loading dies can wipe out accuracy faster then anything.

Dillon also has the floating seating stem that may need to be looked at.
The Lyman Equivilent of that boolit works superbly for me.
See if the wadcutter side is seating the boolit rather than the flip side of the stem. It is reversible.

I think the dies are the culprit here. Adjustmenst will clear it up.

Obviously, his bullets ARE obfuscating, or he wouldn't be asking the question.

Inaccuracy is a terrible thing - especially in language.

Just so we're clear....M52 shoots these fine, other gun doesn't?

I think it two different boolits, same gun.

I have a 52 as well and the Lyman dewc shoots well in it but I don't know if it will shoot better than HBWC.

I also have a model 52. When I went from a button nose to the DEWC my accuracy load dropped from 3.1 gr to 2.9 gr. I attrubuted this to the DEWC being seated deeper in the case and changing the pressure. You might want to tweak your load a little bit.

Heh, heh, I caught that too. Must be he's been listening to too many politicians and got corn-fused!:-P

be careful with the 52,load 2.8 of bullseye or 700x.use to much powder and you will be called one eye.the back end of case will blow out.I have a S&W 51-2.
my custom colt blew out when loaded to 3.5.
I use hornady HBWC.I also have lyman 4 cavity DEWC.

Try 2.7 grains of Bullseye. Also since the 52 is easy to remove the barrel, do so and slug the bore/groove. I really would shoot a lot over groove size. Say the groove is .356 go with .357 first.

i always size my 38's at 358. 3.1 of 231 is the same load as 2.8 of bullseye.
I may try softening up the ww's with stick ons or range lead. I put both to the side and have a coupe of hundred of both.
thanks

I once had a mould with similar problem - .358 WC and the bullets wouldn't group. It was a Lachmiller mould, 3-cavity. Gave me 12" groups at 25 yds. Never figured it out. Sent it to RCBS, who I believe bought Lachmiller casting & dies business, and they never commented but did sent me a 2-cavity 38-150-KT mould in return for no charge. It can happen.
