I would like some feed back on the Ideal 431244 SWC GC that OldGoat was nice enough to sell. I will use it in my 1894 Marlin SS in .44 Mag and my Ruger Bisley Hunter in .44 Mag.

I read here that http://www.leverguns.com/articles/fryxell/marlin_1894.htm He suggests a load of 23.5Gr of W-296? Where as my Lyman 49th Edition shows a Max of 22.8Gr of H-110.

Jester, I read that article and have loads of respect for the writer, Glen Fryxell. As all loading goes what works in my gun might not be the best for your gun theory. Why not start out with the Lyman and work up as they are the same powder. I would trust anything that Glenn writes and as he states in the article, the loads are the ones he tried.

I am going to give the 23.0 and 23.5Gr a shot :). It is just a single Hole mold so to make them BOOLITS is slow lol. I will give them a try in my Ruger first. :)

For the Ruger, espically with the small wooded grips, I'ld consider something a little tamer, like;
9-10 Unique
9-10 231
18-21 2400
Lwt us know how your testing works out

What weight does that cast out to? I will check my load books if you'd like. I have a Lee book that should show cast loads.... and may my old Hodgedon as well...

ETA - I checked - 255 grains.

OK

Lee shows 23 Gr H110 max for 250 grain lead
Hodgedon shows 23 Gr H110 max for 250 grain jacketed

Looks like 23.0 grains is considered the max.

FWIIW, there's always a difference between W296 and H110, even though its been confirmed that they are one and the same...

Further, both of your guns are on the strong side...

This is the bullet used by my wife to kill a bull moose after her Browning Safari Mauser blew up. She dropped the rifle, drew her Super Blackhawk, and put two 429244s through his neck from 65 yards, one-handed and bleeding. The load was 22 grains of *Hercules* 2400, no gas-check. The moose died right there. Both bullets made complete penetrations, which is to be expected.

255 grains sounds about right. Ours were cast from softened Linotype (2/3 Lino/1/3 pure lead), as I recall now.

My brother (ericb) in northern Alberta has the mould now. We fired many thousands of the 429244, and it's a really fine design.
