I built a PID temp controller based on the schematics I found here. It has made life a lot better. The only drawback is the PID I got will only go to 400deg C (752deg F). So far I haven't needed to go any higher, but I've got a 1000deg C PID on order.

My first voltage controller burned up and to buy parts to make another will cost as much as a new pot.
I would like to get an old pot working again so point me to parts and schematics. My first was 1000 watts with a huge heat sink, still gave up too soon.

I did my 4-20 that way a while back. I think I had a total of 40, 45 dollars in the extra parts to get the thing working and yes, it made a world of difference in using the pot, especially as the melt level changes. The temperature of the lead coming out the bottom is where it is and that's where it stays.

Carpetman, your photo is VERY different from five years ago. That trip to Amsterdam really changed things, huh?

Why have it carted all the way from by Pat when you are literally flooded with mexican stuff in your home state?:veryconfu

Fecmech, thanks- much appreciated! Had a busy run the last four years. Now that the bottom fell out of the business for a while, there's a bit more time in a day. You sure can miss out on a lot in life if you're just focused on chasing that almighty dollar.

Harfast, can you point us to the schematics and parts you talked about? I have a Lee Pot as part of my stable of pots, but it doesn't cast for a darn.
