It casts a 75 grain wadcutter. I think this is the boolit some writer used a few years ago to make up 3 and 4 boolit loads in .38 and .357 cases. This multi-boolit idea has always interested me but I've never seen the mould nor it's progeny.

I tried these about ten years ago but sold the mould on Ebay. They aren't as useful as one might think. Two wad cutters max in the 38 special and with the right powder, three in the 357 Magnum. I used them in my 357 Maximum and the performance was somewhat better although, nothing to brag about. At 25 yards, you could keep all the slugs in a ring the size of a 40 gallon trash can. Lee can custom make one for you for around $100 and if you get a Lyman, you'll pay about $60 on the auction sites. Save your money!!!!!!!!!!!

Trooperdan,

I have about 80 boolits that I think may be from this mold or a very similar mold. They're 66gr WCs .358", cast of linotype, single lube groove. I didn't cast them myself, they're commercial cast that I bought a few years ago whenI wanted to try the multi boolit load thing. You're welcome to them if you want them.

Drop me a PM

I have never had the mold for these, but about 15 years ago I had to try it. What I did was make a plug for my mold that blocked the lead from reaching the nose, it was just long enough to give me one grease groove, and I could get 3 in a 38 case or 4 in a 357. After Glasers came out I chucked the project and never looked back, so now everything with instant access carries glassers.

I've got a single cavity 358425 which is about 110 gr. One lube groove, crimp groove and SHORT bore riding full WC nose.

The Himmelwright wadcutter (Lyman 358302) is much more interesting. Does it cut clean holes as they used to advertise?

The Himmelwright is actually an Ideal 429220.

I sure wish I could find a 358302 mould though. I love the .44 in my old .44 Specials ( in the new ones as well)! :) They do indeed cut very clean holes.

Trooper dan.. you can accomplish this pretty easily by taking round balls and bumping them with a flat top punch and then dipping in liquid alox and let dry.

The bumping allows them to stack easier and the sides also fill to a full diameter ring and that seems to help accuracy. I use the two ball loads all the time.

I've done this with .360" RBs for two shot loads in .38 cases abd 3 shot loads in the .357.

I also played with a .319 RB in the same manner. You can load all kinds of these wafers in a .38 case but they lose velocity quickly. Probably would be deadly on snakes at close range.

If you want to experiment first, a 5# box of buckshot's not that costly./beagle

Beagle, now that is a great idea! Squishing a buckshot or a RB sounds a lot better than paying big bucks for a mould that "might" be interesting! Heck, I think I got a .375 DC RB mould in an "assortment" I bought of eBay! Things like that never occur to an un-mechnical type like myself.

Just run those .375 rbs thru a .360 sizer an' don't look back. That's where I get my .360 "rb's". Regards, Woody

Himmelwright designed them in other calibers also. The 358302 is the 38 version of which your second boolit from the left sure looks like one.

I actually mis-spoke (typed) ! :)

I should have said the Himmelwright in the photo is my 429220 .44. I have searched for the Himmelwright 358302 for a couple years without success.

Drop me a note if you ever see one for sale ! :)

I've played around with two stacked boolits with an old Lee 358-82gr mould I found 2nd hand. Even at 25 yds the dispersion with my .357 Smith was only around 2" or so. Think I'll try putting a wad between the boolits next time out with that combo....

They make great plinking bullets loaded singly though. Good accuracy....
