Just purchased a 429421 single cavity Keith mould on E-bay. I cleaned the mould with alcohol and started to pour boolits with a 50-50 mix of linotype and WW. The cavity of the mould doesn't show any rust and looks OK.
The boolits have a dull crusty place on one side of the nose of the boolit which can be rubed off with your finger after they cool.
Does anyone have any Ideal what is doing this?
Thanks, Bill

how many boolits have you run? I find that when I get amold that hasn't been used in a while, it takes a good 100-150 boolits to get it in shape.

Youy may be running the mold a little hot, Frosted boolits can be wiped shiney. Or if it is oil or such, try boiling it ,or denatured alcohol and a tooth brush .....Buck

Sounds like a hot spot where the first lead in hits the mould. I sure would not worry. Reduce the temp a little and it should go away.

I had the same thing happen with a Lee 310GC 44 bullet. I finally sent it back to Lee and they sent me a new one but told me that the problem was a "hot" spot from my pour techniques. I allowed the stream to swirl into the cavities and that stopped the spotting.

Thanks all for the replys, would have responded sooner but the storm got my computer last night, had to get my back-up running!
It's not frost I do know what that looks like this more spotty and seems to move around. May try and boil the mold and see what that does.
Thanks again, Bill

If it's moving around it sounds like either dirt or a little air.
