will this stuff work to open up my lee cavities or do I need something rougher?

Hard to say, probably could'nt hurt to try it. If it don't work, you can still use it on your car. At about $8 a bottle it's worth trying. My instincts tell me though that if it is safe on paint, it won't abrade enough on metal.
