while I was shooting my M44 with iron sights and surplus ammo at 1,000 yards over the weekend.
There was a 25 mph wind as the flag on the pole was straight out, but I managed to get two hits on the paper and for a few seconds, we thought I scored on the moving silhouette. My spotter was all excited until we heard "Nope!" come across the radio in response to the question of "Was that a hit?". I know I'm not the world's greatest marksman, but I sure had fun!

Ive done this with 22lr out to 250 yards on my steel plate in the wind. Its always a WAG where to hold.

Seems to me that a buffalo runner would be most likely to pick a shooting position that is downwind of the bunch he has found. If he is 'straight' downwind, then correction would be more a matter of elevation than windage.
