I've got lino, ww, and pure and want to make lyman #2. Most of the receipes I've seen want you to use 50/50. What is a good source and a good price to pay for it?

6 lbs of WW and 4 lbs of lino will give you a close alloy of #2. I add a little tin to have mold fill out and it gives me a good shooting alloy. Look in the sticky section at the LASC sticky for different recipes. Save the pure for making softer alloys for muzzle loading or as you will see you can mix it in with the lino and 50/50.

50/50 solder ain't as common as it once was. Use half as much lead free solder, available at any home supply, and increase the WW a squoosh. Ought to be able to find the lead free at any home supply or plumbing supply. Should be at or under $10 a pound. Don't ask me why, but I have found the identical product in the electrical department of the same store at a higher price. Check plumbing first.

+1 on the lead free solder.

There's no shortage of 50/50 here...but it's going for $12.00 a pound.

I mixed my alloy with 3 parts WW to 1 part Lino + 2% tin. On the lasc site it is one of the recepies for an approximation to #2.

There is a modern #2 formulation that is light on tin (believe its called Hard Ball 2-6-92). The original Lyman #2 formula uses a good amount of tin unecessarily.

Can you get away without adding tin? I'd really like to not have to buy anything else.

In my experience yes! I have tried casting with alloy without tin on 2 different occasions... you just need to crank the heat up a bit. Maybe the boolits won't be just as shiny but they shst as weel as the shiny ones.

If you do not want to add any tin, 40/60 lead & lino will be very close to #2.
