Maybe one of you petroleum fellers lurking out there could answer a question for me. I have some oil from Texaco that is labeled cappla oil,wax free. Any idea what that means? It is a clear oil that appears to be highly refined. It is also rather thin as to vicosity. I have 3 gal. or I wouldn't bother. Be a shame not to use it for something.

It's a 'refrigerant oil'. My limited experience with that (those) came when I had to buy a new air conditioner compressor for my swather. The old one had seized up due to INSUFFICIENT OIL.
So, I bought 'refrigerant oil' for the new one.

The thing about them is they can exist within the pressurized environment that is occupied by the freon. But that zone must be free of moisture (water type moisture) so the oil is absolutely 'dry' in that regard.

Being dry makes it like a sponge, and it will readily absorb water from the atmosphere once the container is opened.

Don't know how all of that affects your intended use, but at least I got to say it to somebody...

Any water that the oil picks up
Can easly be removed
We put the compressor and lines under a 30 + lb of vacume for at least 1/2 hour , normaly 1 hour
Then you purge the system with dry nitrogen

The Nitrogen picks up any water and carrys it out of the system

I have no clue if the oil is usable in a lube
But if it is , yell
I have at least 1 sealed gallon jug and 4 - 5 sealed Quart cans at work
That I could get REAL cheap

Normaly the replacment compressor comes with enough oil in it
But many times they send extra

We use it in our vacume pumps
