Finally got some primers in. Bought 200 small rifle Rem. 6 1/2 . Went back for more at other location and was told that the very small print says that 6 1/2's aren't for use in .222, .223, 17rem. and some other. So I bought 7 1/2's. Do I need to swap these for 7 1/2 or what. Anyone know the difference?

According to a short article Brian Pearce had in Handloader magazine Remington claims they are identical as far as the mix goes. The cup is thicker in the 7 1/2 than the 6 1/2 though. If you are not loading hot in the 222, I think I would try the 6 1/2's, but would keep them out of the 223 or the Casull unless they were light loads.

Well, that explains the occasional pierced primer I get with 6-1/2s in my AR, that I DON'T get with 7-1/2s. I never heard that before. I'll reserve the 6-1/2s for the .222 and .221.

There was a similar warning about Rem 6 1/2s at the local Sportsman's Warehouse. "Use only in 22 Hornet and 218 Bee" I use them in my 14" Contender 223 with fairly hot loads with no problems....dale

I'd reserve them for the Hornet and Bee, as suggested. The 6 1/2 is a very mild primer with a soft cup, for loads that don't exceed about 40KPsi.

Sounds like they would be fine for cast loads in my .222 then. Thanks for the info guys.
