Well I finally got my 500 Jeffery back from the gunsmith. Wow, now I need to start casting bullets for it. It has a .510 barrel on it what size should I size my cast bullets to ? (.512,.511....) I'm new to casting rifle bullets. Also I do have gas checks for the bases. I'd like to order either a lyman or RCBS sizing die Midway has them in stock.

Is this what the barrel is supposed to be or what you have determined the groove diameter to by by slugging? You NEED to slug before spending money on a sizer that may turn out to not be what you need. +1 on .002 over on this diameter boolit would be fine.

Keep us posted on your results; the .500 sounds like it'd be just the cartridge needed to handle our east Texas armadillos!

Pics!, we need Pics of this Beast!

You can get a pretty close measurement of the bore with a dial caliper at the muzzle.
When I do a chamber cast, I run a tight patch in from the muzzle up to about 1" from the neck. when you pop the cast out, you'll have a nice picture of the throat, lead and land and groove measurements. Then you'll be able to make sure that with a .512" bullet seated, will there be enough room in the neck for it to expand...
If the bore measures .510", then .512 should be fine. On my 470 NE, the bore is .475 and I size to .476". I have had many big bore shooters say they've had excellent results with my 2500+ lube. I can send you free samples of a couple different types of lube to try if you want. Just PM me your address.
