I got several molds from a freind of a freind the other night for free , well sort of free , he wants a few bullets to shoot .

But the problem is , not one mold has the screws to hold the handles on .
I don't have a thread gauge , but I can get most screws for free from a freind .
I just have to tell him what I need .

I know several of you know what size I need off the top of your head .

Thanks
Johnch

A call to Lyman Customer Service will get you a handful of them. They also have rebuild kits that include screws, washers, sprue-plates, etc., but as some of the mould configurations have changed over the years, they may not fit all the older moulds.I think the screws are the same for all single and double-cavity moulds; the four-cavity ones are heavier. If you're in a bind, PM me your address and I will send you a couple - they may be a bit "used" but will work until you get better ones.

I am not in a bind .
I have other molds to use the screws .
I just thought I would let my freind liberate a few from work .

I will ask Lyman for a few .

For your friend's reference, they are basically 8-32 screws, a few thousandths over 1" long, with what the Redcoats call a "cheese-head" 0.250" diameter and about 0.150" deep, slightly rounded on top, slotted You should be able to find an Allen hex-head screw that will fit the head recess in the blocks. But only about 0.330 of the tip end is threaded, the rest is smooth at 0.165" diameter. An ordinary 8-32 will have a longer threaded section which would bear on and eat into the holes in the handle, so you might have to get longer screws and cut the tips back to get the 0.565" (11/16" or so) of straight shank needed below the head.

Let us know if you come up with a usable "stock" screw.

May have found a good screw to use .
My freind says he has both 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" long 8/32 socket head screws that are only partly threaded .
He is going to drop a few off later in ther week .
I will cut them off to the right length .
If I don't have enough threads I will run them thru a 8/32 die I have .

I hope the head O.D. is right , if not way to big I will just chuck them up in the drill press and file them to the right size .

Boy the trouble I will go thru to save a buck [smilie=1: [smilie=1:
