what mold do you guys like for .40s&w?

ive got a xd40sc, and beretta storm carbine,(and thinking of the xdm40), that id like to cast for.

im thinking mainly target, but if theres a good "hunting/defense" mold as well, ill buy that too.

I've got the Lyman 401638 and Trickyasafox's 150 grain groupbuy. The nose profiles on both boolits are nearly identical to the Winchester White Box 165 grain. I am also in on Mihec's 160 grain HP group buy, which looks quite promising as well.

Your best bet as far as a hunting/defense boolit is to find a profile you like and get it hollowpointed by Buckshot.

I use a SAeco 170grTC & the Lyman 175grRNFP. Both shoot great.

I use those same two moulds and in addition I use three other SAECO 40 cal moulds - the 155gr SWC, the 170gr SWC and the 200gr TC. The 155gr and both versions of the 170gr boolit are used in my 40S&Ws while the 170gr moulds and the 200gr mould are used in my 10mm. I also agree with you that the Lyman 401043 RNFP is an excellent boolit in both the 40S&W and the 10mm. I also have acquired a 40 cal Lee 6 cav 170gr TC mould although I haven't cleaned it up as yet to get it ready for casting boolits (too darn hot right now to do ANY casting - 105+ degrees!!). Lots of good moulds out there but I suppose if I had to choose just one for use in both 40S&W and 10mm, I'd select the same ones you've mentioned, the SAECO 170gr TC or the Lyman 175gr RNFP #401043 (old 38/40 design).

Oh, by the way, I got all these normally rather expensive two and four cavity SAECO moulds over 20 years ago when LETS (Leading Edge Tool Service) was going out of business and Tom wanted to get rid of his inventory. Moulds were priced over 50% below retail so I bought a whole bunch of them, 18 to be exact, and haven't ever regretted doing so.

My favorite in my Hi Point is the Lee 170gr TC. Feeds great and is accurate. WW typically cast around 179gr. I load these for a friend for his 10mm as well. It is the lube groove style but I tumble with LLA (just plain easier, although I have tried lube with no difference). I have a 170gr TL SWC that is OK for targets, too, but I like the TC better. My friend has trouble with the SWC feeding some of the time in his 10mm.
