hi a friend gave me 2 cans of old dupont 4759 powder , i opened the virgen cans & poped the seal and the powder looks & smells ok . dupont brought it back after some years of being discontuned as sr 4759 , the oldest loading manual that i have is 1974 and it does not list 4759 only sr4759 does anyone have old loading data for the 30 carbine with 120 to 130 gr lead bullets with 4759 powder ? thanks bob

Bob, same powder. SR stands for sporting rifle. My Lyman Ideal manual #40 circa 1955 says, "Dupont 4759-- Dupont classifies this as an SR powder-Sporting Rifle"...Ray

You have some good stuff there. If you can't use it, send it to me.

I use 10.8 in my 32-20. Cartridges are similar in size by only one or two grains. This is a light load, around 1100 fps out of my contender. You could start there and work up. Lyman Sez 11 grains of 2400 for a 130 grain boolit in a 30 carbine for a starting load, 4759 is slower than 2400.

Bob, fill the case up with it. It is slow enough in that size of a case. ... felix

.............SR4759 has been discontinued and brought back twice that I know of. It was developed by Dupont as a fluffy bulky powder for reduced range penetration tests and stuff. One of THE old time cast boolit powders. On a par with 4227.

It is a current surplus number via Bartlett. Or at least it was. This is the 2nd surplus go around. I bought 2 jugs (6lbs ea as it's fluffy). By the time I got to work with it and found it EXACTLY like canister SR4759 and went back to buy more, he was out.

This time when it became available I bought all I could afford @ 4 jugs. Compared to canister prices I saved a bit over $400. One of, if not the best surplus powder out there for cast in the 'general' cast velocity areas of 1600 fps velocity ever.
