I feel that the RCBS LAM sizer works well but wondering how many sizes you do between the turns of the lube feed? I can do maybe 3 or 4 sizes but maybe I'm not pressurizing the lube enough.

How many sizings do you do between turns of the lube feed with the RCBS LAM? I read that the Saeco can do 20-50 sizes between turns of the lube feed...

I have a Lyman 4500, so my answer may not be applicable, but...

It depends on the boolit diameter, number, and depth of the lube grooves. Usually, I can lube two 429421 boolits, whereas I can lube three 358-168s, before having to give the wrench a bit of a crank.

Saeco has a spring loaded plunger.

I suppose it could also depend in the type of lube that you are using.

Myself I use a soft lube that does not require heating. With my setup I give it a light crank most every boolit.

Recently I did a (personal) upgrade to my Lam II's. I machined the stem down a little and then welded an old 1/4" socket to the top to get rid of that cumbersome "T" handle setup from the factory. This way the handles is always where YOU want it. Needless to say I still give it a small crank most every time I pull the handle.

At any rate, its all about developing the "feel" to deliver just the right amount of lube. With too much pressure from too large a crank, will give you a lubed boolit base at the very least.

I can go maybe 3/4 boolits before I need more pressure and I'm still getting use to the 4500. After all the advice I got on this forum boolits are starting to look real good. Lotta good folks here.

Mugs gave me the answer I was looking for. I too usually turn a bit with each sizing and sometimes can get 2 or 3. I was thinking about devising some sort of spring loaded piston to pressurize the lube....I guess it's already been done...

That's a pretty cool idea Sprue!

Thanks for everyone's input.

Ditto and the same for my Lyman's also.

I don't like to have too much pressure on the lube in the reservoir.

I don't think it would be too hard to retrofit a spring loaded piston to the LAM... I have an image in my mind already... Maybe I'll call RCBS and see if their engineers want to hear about it.

In addition to groove size and dia., lube hardness, etc. it also depends on the temperature, which affects viscosity. There are many varibles.
