The front sight for my 1966 vintage Colt PP Special went into orbit the last time I shot this pistol. Numrich has no sights or barrels. Cylinder and Slide will make and install a new sight for $135, plus $28.50 for test firing, plus shipping, etc. C&S has a name for excellent work, but I don't think I can afford excellence! Any sights (preferred) or barrels (desperation) out there?

I think C&S should be shot for that outrageous amount to put a sight on your pistol. Geez !, $28.50 to test shoot it?? What are they using, the best premium 50 round box of ammo. Just crazy , just crazy...and boy they sure help to promote the shooting hobby huh.

Hi,Bill. I had Numrich on the horn this AM. Their web site showed 2200-odd 2" bbls. but the man on the phone said no got. C&S wanted three hours @ $45 to MAKE and install a sight, cold blue fnish. Otherwise they would have to strip all the (like new) finish off the gun and reblue. Standard action job is $110.25, super action job $236.75. Test fire $ 28.50, to check sighting and function. I saw a lovely Diamondback at the Reno gunshow for $550, looks cheap compared to C&S. They do have a fine reputation, but all I had in mind was a front sight and reducing the trigger pull below the twenty mule team level. At those prices, I can be very patient waiting for your tax work to be done!

Scrounger, who wouldn't like that bunch of Colts? A little too rich for my blood, I'm just trying to fix up the one I have!

I had a four inch barrel 22 Diamond back. Finely finished piece of junk in my book. Yeah, it was machined well and looked pretty. Lots of things wrong with them though. One, the thing never was very accurate. Come to fine out through really some Colt stuff that Colt used a large bore for 22 RF. I slugged the barrel like the author of the article said to do and it was on the very large size. Been awhile now but something on the order of .228. The bolt is a tiny little thing and in my opinion the action is fragile. I bought the gun new and it didn't take it much time to go out of time. Had alot of misfires too. I read alot of folks had misfires with them. Like I said, pretty gun, nicely finished, but I'd never owned another one, especially for the ridiculous high price for a piece of junk.

Joe, I will agree 100 percent. The 22 diamondbacks are junky shooters. I traded mine for a fly shooting 22LR Kimber rifle, the collector grade version, called Super America or something like that. Perfect shooter and looker. ... felix

I traded mine for one of the first of the Marlin Cowboys in 45 LC and it's just about a fly shooter also.
I don't know about the 38 Diamondbacks, I would imagine they are accurate, but still retain the fragile lockwork.

Nv Curmudgeon, I know a couple of places where you can get a front sight made for the PPS. Let's do it right and dovetail it into the barrel, so you will be able to adust for windage, call for an appointment.
I have to disagree with the Colt bashers here, not all guns fit everybody, or everbodies purposes. If your needs require you to stand in front of a mirror and practice your quick-draw and double action techniques, a Colt revolver is probably not for you. If on the other hand you enjoy spending the afternoon plinking with a fine lady and the Colt Diamondback is the pistola of her choice, than you better have one in your gunsafe. I am lucky enough to have both, and our .38 Special Diamondback is on the do not sell list. The Diamondback is of course the Police Positive Special fancied up with the heavy barrel and ventilated rib. I am holding ours in my hands right now, and it is indeed beautifully finished, fitted, and is a tack driver with any good .38 Special load. Not every gun has to be made like a sledge hammer to have a purpose.
