I tried it last night. I usually don't cast in the summer, but this troublesome 429421 mold had me needing a handful of bullets, so I thought what the heck.

I think I like it, esp for shorter runs. I turned my pot on at 9:10pm, figeted around with getting my mold handles on, setting up the area for efficiency in the process, etc. I started pouring a few minutes before 9:30 to start getting the mold up to temp. I started casting "keepers" around 9:30, and cast for one hour. I must say they were nice looking bullets. I haven't counted them yet, but I got half a 1 lb. coffe can full.

Unfortunately they are undersize, but that's a fault of the mold, not the process. I needed some samples to send to Lyman when I return the mold.

I may explore this further.

Undersized Lyman? Unusual in my experience, mold was probably made with a much used cherry.

Yes, bullets dropping from the mold at .428-.429. Other board members are saying this is becoming more and more common with recent Lyman molds.

It's not the mold. The cause of undersize boolits is our shrinking lead supply:wink:

Oh yeah, darn near doubled my hourly production! I use it with 2 and 6 cavs.

I like this method too... the boolits really pile up quickly, and ther's hardly any waiting time.
