Which Lee mold will produce the best feeding boolits for my Argentine Colt, so far I have only shot ball ammo. Mine was made in 1954.

Try the 230gr 2R round nose. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=148534

Even though its designed for tumble lube I have had good results using standard lube and a lube sizer.

If you want I can send you some of my RCBS 201 semi wadcutters. If they feed than just about any of the lee moulds should feed.

My sistema eats everything. I have 4 Lee 45 molds, 160,190,200,and 230g. My sistema is the test gun and it shoots all of them. I tumble lube JPW. Later Don

All guns have their own characteristics as you well know. But if the Lee example suggested above don't feed nothing will.

What you didn't clarify is what method of lubing that you use or prefer (i.e. TL, conventional rcbs or lyman luber sizers).

Myself I use the RCBS 201-SWC I think it is. Feeding has not been problematic for me in any of the 45 ACP's using a SWC. But then again refer back to my first line above.

Nice pistol, I let one of those get away a while back.

Here is my favorite:

...in a 1945 vintage 1911A1, and my 1911A1 clone. Straight wheel weights, air cooled, 8.0gr Accurate #5, seated to 1.19" COAL.

The key issue will be the throating of the bbl. If you remove the bbl and look at the
feed ramp portion, is it a narrow area of rounded ramp with a flat face (the edge of the
chamber) on each side, or is it a wide area that is angled and blended together into
a feed ramp? By narrow area, I mean about 1/4" wide smooth groove. The wide
extends almost or actually all the way to the sides and up.

The flat faces on either side of the narrow military feed ramp will catch on the flat
faces of semi-wadcutter type of boolits and cause jams. Round nosed boolits will
feed fine even with the narrow military feed ramp. It is pretty easy to "throat"
a barrel with a dremel and a stone if you are skilled at that sort of thing, but if you
are not, you can mess up the bbl. I can post a pic of a throated bbl if you need
to see what it looks like.

+1 on the 452-200 RF. I assume you are looking for target loads. Either way, this one fills the bill.

I use the Lee c452-200-SWC and have had great luck with it in my 1911.

Another +1 on the Lee 452-200 RF. It has a regular lube grove but I tumble lube with 50/50 mix of JPW & Xlox. It works great in my Kimber UCII with 4.5 gr of Bullseye.

The "gold standard" for target bullets for the .45 ACP (and Auto Rim) is the H&G #68 SWC (200 grs in my alloy). My autos will also feed the H&G #130 SWC perfectly but not all autos will.

The Lee .452" 200 gr SWC is not quite the equal in feeding as the original H&G #68 but it is close. If it will feed in your gun (the only way to REALLY tell is to try it) then you are good to go. I very much recommend the Lee Six Cavity mould over the Lee two cavity moulds.

One that I have always had a hankering to try is the Lee .452" 230 TC (with single lube groove) but have not had the opportunity.

I have had a Star luber/sizer for forty years or so and have not been tempted to try the Lee tumble lube system.

+1 on the 230 RN. Great mould and boolit.

There is a GB that just closed for a 45 HP mould. I think Mihec made a few extra so you may want to contact him. The price is well over what a Lee would cost but you may be interested. I DO NOT KNOW HOW WELL THIS BOOLIT WILL FEED IN YOUR PISTOLA. But it should do well I’d think.

+1 on Lee's 230 gr truncated cone. My XD-45 will not feed SWCs but the TC boolits have gone 2K rounds without a FTF.

230 TC works for me, also use it in .45 Super.

I started on the Lee 200gn RF, and I will probably wear out the mold!
All my 1911s clones or otherwise digest them all day.
No leading, great accuracy.
Everyone I know, or read of has used Alox has had issues. I pan lube, Lee size, and they are more dependable than ball ammo.

The Lee 200 RF is a purdy good boolit in the 1911s. Nix the alox snot crap.

If you're looking for a bullet most likely to feed, then you must use a bullet most similar to what the gun was designed to feed.

This would be a lead roundnose most similar to ball, with a two radius ogive, loaded to approximate ball length of about 1.260-1.265."

As mentioned before, that's the Lee 230-2R. Some other designs, like the 200 RF, are nonstandard and produce a round of shorter than normal length. While they may feed for many guys here, they're not a design that most 1911's and variants, sight unseen, would feed more reliably than the 230-2R.

That's just the way it is. Standard bullets with standard profiles rather than oddball designs not intended for the 1911 are more likely to feed. Not so hard to figure out, really.

If it works with ball, it'll work with the 230-2R, since it is ball, essentially.
