How old is this lubri-sizer??

Gentlemen,

I picked up this old Lyman lubri-sizer off eBay last week, kinda to replace my broken 450 and as a spare. How old do you think it is? It takes standard 450 dies & top punches, but they are held in with set screws. The lube reserviour is just a metal tube, no body around it. It even has a wood end on the handle. I like it!! I love vintage reloading tools, and I think it looks neat.

It is a Model 45. Have one just like it .It was made by Ideal. Got mine in mid to late 70's and it was well used then. Lyman will send you instructions or PM me and I can copy mine. Duckiller

That's a Model 45 but I don't know how old it is. I got my 450 about 40 years ago so it is older than that. Someone around here will know it's age. I bought a 45 on Ebay a couple years ago and I use it quite a bit.

From what I researched the Lyman #45 luber/siizer was introduced around 1948.

That's one of the early ones with a pivot bolt for the handle. Later, they changed to a pressed pin. My Dad bought the one I use now in the very early 50's.

I used one of the Lyman 45's for many years. It is a good lube sizer. The only thing I had happen was the pivot bolt broke. That is a common failure but easily replaced. The neat thing is you can use the modern dies (H & I) - they fit just fine.

I've got one too. Picked it up for peanuts because the end of the screw shaft in the lube chamber had been broken. I put in one from the new Lyman model in and had to drill a larger hole in the reservoir cap to get in on. Works just fine and uses standard dies like Dale53 says.

I picked up one last year. It was in the original box with instructions. It has since lubed well over a 1000 45-70 boolits. I looked for a publication date on the instructions, but no luck there.

I bought mine new in the early 60's. The nose punch lock screw has a knurled head and the pivot pin is a screw. I have no idea how many bullets I have run thru it but it has to be in the five digit range and still works very well..

I bought the Lyman 45 that I still use, new in 1967. I have replaced the screw shaft that compresses the lube with one from a 450 (about 15 years ago).
