I sent my single cavity SAECO # 307 to Buckshot. He was to remove the g/c shank and HP the mold.
The solids from this mold weighed right at 190 grs., the HP version weighs 178 grs.
The HP pin stops at the crimp groove on the bullet.

He did a jam up good job ( as usual ).
I've been having a lot of fun with these plain based .30 cal. cast bullets.
They are shooting REAL WELL for me right now.

They look very nice. How fast do you push them?

Vly:

I shoot them into a " ragged hole " at 50 yards with my Ruger # 1 Stainless, 308 Win. with 9.0 grs. of Russian Unique.

I've never tried to " Hot Rod " my plain based .30 cal. bullets. I really don't know what their velocity ceiling is. Some say with the right alloy and lube 1,500 - 1,600 fps.

Most of my loads are in the 1150 - 1250 fps range. ( gallery loads )

A fun load,- - - cheap, easy on the shoulder , ears, and pocket book.

Ben,
With the right barrel you should be able to hit 1400-1500 FPS with out leading and that design HP'd should shoot good groups. If it still had the GC then 1900-2100 should be attainable with good accuracy. Nice looking bullet though. Mark

Some of you told me you were interested in seeing how the SAECO # 307 plain base , HP'd by Buckshot , did at the range.

Here it is :

Ben,

Good looking Boolit, new to casting, but not to reloading, have been shooting long range rifle for some time now, but just completed building a little 308 Scout rifle Rem 700 receiver, forward mounting scope, and have decided this is my play gun. My ? is if a person wanted to copy your mold, where can you get the mold? Would Buckshot be interested (do You) think in repeating the steps he did for you?

Your load looks like just the ticket for some short range FUN!!!!

Thank You

SFC Whittaker

Ben,

OK, found the Redding/Saeco site for the mold, guess now need to send Buckshot a PM.

Would love to try your boolit, would you be interested in selling 25?

Ben and his boolit porn! Nice job as usual, great pics! Ben truely is the Larry Flint of Boolit pictures! Again an outstanding example of a good boolit, barrel and shooter putting it all together and on target!

Ben, do your cases soot up pretty badly with that load? If not, what case prep steps do you take. I've moved up to 12.0 grains of regular Unique just for that reason.

NHlever:

One difference to note, ......... I'm not using Alliant Unique. I'm using Russian Salute ( Russian Unique ), purchased from Hi - Tec.

My case necks have no more carbon on them than any of my other cast loads.

I neck size my 308 Win. brass with a Redding neck sizing die. I flare my necks with a Lyman " M Die ". I seat the .310 dia. bullet with a Lee Seater die.

9.0 grs. Russian Unique.

Good shooting load for me.

Best,
Ben
