250 and 300 grain bullets for use in a strong Redhawk??

Yep. I have used an older lot of WC820 from HiTech (similar to H110) with Lee 300 gr GC and RCBS 45-270SAA. I don't have my reloading data here at work but I remember using the Hodgdon Ruger only data for H110 starting loads for similar bullets as a guide. Have shot them out of my Blackhawk and a friend's 454 Redhawk. They were vigorous but a lot less so than factory 454s. Shot pretty danged well out of both guns. I have the load data squirrelled away for when I finally get to go hog hunting. PM if you want the specifics when I get home tonight.

I shoot several thousand rounds a year of a 310 Keith, 21.5 grains of WC 820(lot #47320) and a Federal 155 in Starline brass. Very accurate at least to one thousand yards and a real game getter. Wc 820 is AA #9 depending on the lot number and is the best sixgun powder I know of for the price. It is going away since no more is being produced so buy, buy, buy.

I cannot respond to whomever is trying to email me privately. I shoot a 5.5 inch 45 Ruger Blackhawk with a custom(?) barrel and a stock cylinder with the throats opened to 452 or so. The chamber measures about .483 at the back end and .480 at the front. Bullets are sized at 453 and cast of ww and lubed with Rooster High Velocity .

Sounds like you have a chamber that can take 35K-40K all day long. ... felix

probably my most used powder for that application.

I just used 20.0 grains of WC820 with a Lee 253 SWC, and got 1310 fps in a Blackhawk with a 4.63" barrel.

I think this load is around 32K CUP and is a max load. I backed it down to 18.5 and hope to get a little over 1200 at around 30K CUP.

See the link below for good 30K CUP AA #9 data. I have found that my batch of WC820 is a bit hotter than this data, which is why I am having to back it off a bit.

The lot numbers of WC 820 that are about 13% faster than H110 are 47320 and 47321. There is another lot that is much faster but I do not know the number. The faster lot is supposed to be about like WW 571 or HS7.

Has anyone here used WC 820N in the .445 SM?
I rechambered my .44 mag. Handi to .445 SM yesterday and am trying to find some reasonable loads for 240 , 270 and 310 gr cast gas check bullets.

I shoot WC820 in my 454 with bullets in the 320-350gn range. It takes about 2gns less WC820 to get the same velocity as 296. In cold weather it needs a magnum primer to light it off.

Hi Don, I have a profile of WC820 in Quickload that seems to work pretty close for me. So this is not load data, just some numbers spit out by the computer.
Anyway for a 20" bbl and the 445SM with WC820
240gn 28gns 1965fps @ 30ksi
270gn 26gns 1804fps @ 28.1ksi
300gn 24gns 1690fps @ 29.3ksi
These all are around 82% filled, so WC820 might be too fast for this case. I would think that reloader 7 might be a better place to start. I plugged that in and got.
240gn 33gns 1950fps @ 28.8ksi
270gn 32gns 1870fps @ 30.7ksi
300gn 29gns 1723fps @ 30.2ksi
These all fill the case.

Me too, I dropped down 3 grains from my maximum loads for WW 296 and H-110. I find WC 820 to be just a little fast burning for maximum velocity with the heavy boolits, but damn, it shoots accurately.

In .44 magnum it's even better.

Amen on the accurate part. On several of my 50 yd targets I can get 3 shots into around .2", then the other 2 open it up to 1.5" ish My best accuracy comes in around 1350 fps.
WC820 seems to be bulkier than 296 FWIW.

I find that the 680 or RL7 at 28 grains, with a 300 grainer, in the lever gun is about max according to case expansion in a sloppy chamber. So, let's call it a 30K cup load. ... felix
