Im confused, In the new August 2009 handloader page 36. Charles Petty starts his article off "Only accurate rifles are interesting" wrote Warren Page. I though Townsend Whelen said this. Maybe they both said it. Im just so confused.:???:

Every quote of "Only accurate rifles are interesting" I have seen has been attributed to Colonel Townsend Whelen.

I thought it was Whelen.

Page quoted it in his book ("The Accurate Rifle"), I don't think he credited it to Whelen. Whelen was around first, so no doubt it was whelen.

I'll disagree with that quote whoever made it. If every rifle was pin point accurate it would take all the fun/interest out of handloading and shooting. :castmine:

Keith and O'Connor gave credit to Whelen. Probably correct.

Sounds like my acquaintance Charley had a brain poot. I'll forgive him; Lord knows I have enough of them myself!

Everybody says something stupid once in a while. The difference is that writers have theirs in print. Forever!

As said- probably both did.
As also said- Whelen almost certainly would have said it first.
BUT someone surely could have said it before him. I could imagine Harry Pope saying it, for one.

Personally, I agree with Dakotashooter2.
I have some rifles that I would never call "accurate", but have no hesitation in calling them "interesting".

Fairly well depends on your definition of 'Accuracy'.

(Criminy. I sound like Slick Willie. Criminy...)

Jesse Smiley spoke for me when discussing a beautiful classic single shot rifle as opposed to a modern bolt action tac driver. I would rather loose with this rifle than win with that one. Many shooters love there Rem.mod 700s and I admit they do shoot but I have no desire to own one and they just don't go up in value like the old ones do. Jesse is the man that brought us Javalina bullit lube. He owned many beautiful single shot rifles and shot in many local matches in Southern Cal. I care only about shooting my single shot rifles with rimmed cases and lead bullits. It has been years since I loaded a jacketed bullit.
