Has anyone here tried this??? seems like it would be great for cast bullets if it were true.

I see no mention of happy testimonials.

When someone I respect tries it, and recommends it, then I MIGHT give it a try.

Looked at the add and read it. Sounds to good to be true. That right there tells me something. But then again I've never tried it.

Been so many years ago, did STP really give you a ring job?

Another miracle coating. Like moly, cryro freezing, etc I imagine it'll sell well and the results will be ambiguous.

I too read the add and found the colors of the miracle product to be quite soothing....

I'm just currious what it might do to a barrel that is rough form firing corrsive ammo?

We had a brief discussion over on Baitshopboyz. Our own master gunsmith, Kingpin, checked it out. His preliminary results were good but inconclusive. He's supposed to keep us posted.

Ask the benchrest boys if it works

Sounds like a takeoff on the shotgun barrel ceramic coating that came out shortly after steel shot. It was ceramic powder in epoxy. A fad that didn't last. You guys try it, if it works, then I'll try it.

Could this be similar to the blue coating that Barnes used on their bullets? I read that their coating came from auto racing technology.

I was a shop foreman for Phoenix and used to get the trade magazines. I remember reading about ceramics being developed for internal engine surfaces.

Didn't see anything about a guarantee in the ad.

The ad copy says it will "...fuse to the metal barrel surface, filling imperfections..."

Also says "...adding measurable microns ....to the bore..." Not sure I need to reduce the bore diameter of any of my barrels, no matter how small a "measurable micron" is.

It seems everybody here has a similar opinion about this stuff. So, whos buying it? and where are the test results from the company? I have a 6.5x55 that has tiny pits all through the barrel, if these claims of rejuvinating a barrel are true, it might be worth the $80+ dollars to fix it as opposed to $400+ to rebarrel.

I agree. Too much sensationalism, too little hard information. I don't see the happy customers. I don't see how many "treatments" you get for your $83.
Yup, I'll go $8 for some but that's about the most money that will be parted from this fool...........

Also says "...adding measurable microns ....to the bore..." Not sure I need to reduce the bore diameter of any of my barrels, no matter how small a "measurable micron" is.

One micron is about 1/100 the thickness of a piece of paper, or about .00004 inch. Doubled, to account for the coating as a diameter, rather than a radius, it comes to .00008, or less than 1/10,000 of an inch. This is less than the tolerance held in a good target barrel. In a theoretically perfect .22 centerfire barrel, the diameter would be reduced from .224 groove diameter to .22392. You probably shoot through that much or more powder and copper fouling. It's not enough to worry about.

I don't know what they mean by it "filling imperfections", but I'd think the imperfections would have to be pretty small for this thin film to fill them to make the surface flush with the rest of the bore.

The coating may have some merit, but for $84+shipping, the results would have to be near miraculous for me to buy it.

Regards,

Stew

Reading the ad copy, I kept stopping and sniffing, there was the unmistakable smell
of burning snake oil in the air. . . . . . .

I'll sit back and wait, not holding my breath. Heck, it might be the greatest stuff
since sliced bread, but then maybe not.
