Its done all the time. If things are fit proper there should be no problems.

I have the 45-70 ported Guide Gun and have had no problem shooting cast boolits at all.The only problem I have had was with the Barnes 300 XFN not to mention the terrible fouling..

HI,
Back in the 1960-70's it was said that microgroove barrels & ported barrels would not shot cast well. I do not think anyone believes that now. I for one have done both successfully W/ 1000's of rounds.

i have a smith 629 6" that i had Mag-na-Port done. (slots parallel to the front sight) i've fired probably 2000 cast slugs since the port job. the worst thing i have had was a slight film of lead on the sides of the sight base after 100 to 200 rounds. i usually can rub my thumbnail across the edge and pop it loose. it's about the thickness of aluminum foil.

i'll gladly trade the slight extra cleaning for the improvment the ports made.

If you're using a Cutts Compensator, as on the Thompson or Reising, you might loose one or two of the thinner baffles. But a 'ported' barrel with one or two major holes cut into it is a different story.

What kinda gun we talkin bout.
I am shooting a #1 Ruger in 375 H&H mag. with Magna ports.
Haven't used any filler yet, that's next. Using a 270 grain plain base boolit.
I think I may be close to getting it tamed.
Welcome to the forum.
