I'm not the greatest shot but at least I have fun doing it.

Load for the 45/70 is 13gr Unique with 415gr Lyman 457193

Load for 44 is 22.8gr WW296 and 240gr Lee TL SWC. Have crono'd this and it is between 1400 and 1500 fps, can't remember closer to which.

Both cast from straight Wheel weights.

Nice shooting but I have a question.
How's the paint on the roof of the car now?

LOL good question. Been using it as a rest for a couple years now and it's got quite a few powder burns on it. Lucky the wife is too short to see.

I love it. There is nothing like the sound of lead bullits hitting steel. If I could take the recoil I could do that type of shooting all day. I use 15 gr.unique with small cotton wad behind a 405 gr. bullit in my Pedersoli Sharpes 45-70. Averages 1337 fps. Fortunately I have two 38-55s that have little less kick. I can shoot them a bit longer.

Awesome! I love steel shooting too. Eventually I'll have a few more steel plates to set up a small range here, as it stands now we just go out on the swamp and blast paper plates and newspaper sheets. There's just something rewarding about hearing that steel plate ring! Nice shooting.

Shooting over a car roof or hood? Just remember that your line of site is about 2 1/2 inches higher than your barrel. Don't ask me how I know. All I can say is that thank God NAPA was open on Sunday and had Bondo and the matching touch up paint for my mother's 62 Buick. RD

RD, makes no difference anyway. They'll (we'll) give you 4500 bucks for it. Go to your nearest derailed dealer to collect a brand new one providing 18 MPG. ... felix

Ditto on that question. I have seen paint peeled off too often.

Is it just my imagination, or is that the bullet I see in flight before impact on the 45/70 shots?

I saw it too. Not your imagination.

In most of the 45/70 shots you can see the bullet in flight in the full size video. When I shrunk it down, they became harder to see.
