Here is the 311316, 115gr 30 cal mould Group buy.
I will be running the GB and we well be using Night Owl Enterprise (NOE) to make our moulds
A minimum of 15 orders for moulds is required.
The GB will close on August 7, 2009, if we do not get a min of 15 orders by then we will wait until 15 has been reached and then the order will go in.
You may order any number of cavities available. You will just need to pay the appropriate price.
1 cavity moulds are $68 ea.
2 cavity moulds are $72 ea.
3 cavity moulds are $79 ea.
4 cavity moulds are $85 ea.
5 cavity moulds are $92 ea.
There will be a Plain Base version offered. If you order a 5cavity and want 2 of them to be plain base, make sure you order TWO of the plain base options in the GB Login section.
If you want one cavity HP’ed it will be an added $35.
Extra blank pins are $1.50 Each.
Shipping to you with insurance will be $10
A Lyman, RCBS type top punch is included along with a sample of Bull Plate sprue lube.
This will be ran like the GB’s of old.
You will need to go to the GB login section and find the mould and options you want. Place the order, print 2 copies of the invoice and send payment to me, SHDWLKR. You will need to add up the total cost of what you order as the software doesn’t do that yet.
When the GB closes, I’ll place the order and send in the money.
For those out of country please PM me for details on payment options and shipping costs.
NOE will ship them all to me and I’ll test cast with a few of them and then if all is well, send out the moulds.
Here are some pics and dimensions.

Here is the boolit as cast from the mould.
Of the two pairs shown, the one on the left in each example is the 'standard' 311316.
The one on the right of each pair is the "modified" the one we'll be getting on the GB.
I showed a pair with and with out the GC.

I had the good fortune to get the first run of the 311316 for testing the other day.
As you know this is NOE's first production mould.
I can say I am VERY pleased with it!
It's a 5 cavity, has a very nice heavy sprue plate that will hold heat well. Mould required a bit of standard cleaning, in my case I used brake degreaser and a tooth brush. I got the mould up to temp and used a HOT alloy and cast up an amazing amount of boolits! (well at least for me.. :) in a very short time.
The quality and workmanship on this mould is OUTSTANDING! I am very glad I'm in on the 360180GB he's running as I will really look forward to using it.
One of the nice features was the very finely crafted Top punch that was sent along with the mould. (He send's one with each mould at no extra cost!:drinks:)
The little bottle of Bull Plate spure lube worked very well!
Another nice feature I really liked was the handle pins, when you unscrewed them (with the supplied allen wrenches.. another bonus :drinks:) you didn't have to unscrew them all the way out of the mould, and have them flop around on the floor before you could set the handles in it.
I used Lee 6C handles and they fit very well!
All bullets from ALL cavites measured the SAME! I wt'd about 25 of the 312 boolits I cast and they ALL wt the same! I am very very pleased. (he may not get this one back.. :) justkidding.
I then let some cool and seated the gator checks in 30 cal that I have on hand (gee wonder why.... har har) and they fit PERFECTLY. A little snap, but could be taken off easy if needed.
I then took the .314 as cast boolit an sized them to .309 (yea I needed it that small for my 30-06) and shot some at full house load... :) Put two into an inch or so at 25 yds. Not bad....
They sized very nicely to that dia, and had pleanty of lube groove left.
I stepped them down, first to .311 then to .309, and at the .311 they looked great!
In short I am very very pleased that SWEDENELSON took the time and effort he took to get lined up for a very fine quality mould!
WAY TO GO!

Never thought to measure it but it seemed to be the right size for casting bullets. Don't think I spec'd that as part of the design. I know my lead ladle fit it just right.
If you really need to know get back to me and I can most likely get it for you.

Ok just a wild question but why would you wish to have and or use such a light BOOLIT in a 30-06?
Blammer
06-28-2009, 08:39 PM
it's a 115gr bullet, you could easy get it up to say 2400 fps... :)
Play havoc on Coyotes, or other vermin and the small deer around here (say 100 lbs or so) would be dandy.
Seriously, this boolit is good for 30-30's an such.

If you really need to know get back to me and I can most likely get it for you.
I miked a few plate and this is what I got;
1. Saeco 070 -140 7 MM & 073-165-7MM were .150 to .155
2. RCBS - 145 7 MM .120
3. Old P&C 175-30 Cal . .130
4. Old NEI 170-7MM .110
three points;
1.All the above molds cast longer & heavy=more melt bullets that this mold
2. cutting 2 .155 +Dia. spru's off isn't that big a deal add two or three more spru's and get a bigger & heavier whacker
3. This bullet wasn't designed for shooting small groups, the 311284 casters might be and might benifit some smaller holes and this probably belongs there

Shdwlkr a couple questions please
I don't have a printer on my computer, can i write out my purchase on a sheet of paper an send to you? I assume you just hold the check till the molds arive.
The dia is specified as 314 with WW correct.
shdwlkr
06-29-2009, 05:22 PM
Do you have word on your computer or works or notepad?
do an attachment to an email and send the check to me or money order
You are correct nothing gets deposited until I have 15 orders or 6 weeks is up. If we don't have 15 orders you will have the option of paying more or having me send you check or money order back to you.
yes it is .314 diameter with WW lead
PS I like your location the boonies sounds like a nice place to be anymore.

Well, since I started the feeler for this I need to order one. I am so pleased it is casting boolits at .314 which is what I need. Thanks for all your help. Where can I get your address to send payment? Thanks again
Blammer
06-30-2009, 03:21 PM
218bee, when you go to the GB login and place your order, the "invoice" you print will have the address of the honcho on it. That is the address you'll send pmt to.
Yes the dia is .314 spec'd with WW alloy, as well as the wt too.

Since I'm new to casting, group buys, etc. how would I order a 4 cavity plain base mold. I logged in to the group buys page, but the instruction for PB mold option seems cryptic to me. Any help would be appreciated.
Blammer
06-30-2009, 05:16 PM
order you're 4 cavity mould. Since the "standard" on this is a GC mould you'll need to order 4 plain base options.
So your invoice will show one 4C mould and 4 plain base options.
(ignore the shipping and add only $10 as it won't be right)
Print invoice and mail check to the honcho.

You have no idea of the fun it was to get it to this point with this bullet. If I hadn't wanted this bullet and a new mold maker things could have gotten real interesting. But I had a good mold maker and we worked all the issues out and now we have another mold maker to get molds from. Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
It has been an interesting journey learning all that are honcho's go through to get molds for us and I am totally addicted to this honcho deal. I can't wait to get another one going.

Ah, the great thing about a group buy.
You have the choice to participate if you want to or not.
I'm afraid that the time for constructive criticism is over, it would have been greatly appreciated on the feeler thread.
Obviously you don't like the design that is presented, may I suggest that you wait until one appears that you do like. That way all will be happy.

I am sorry that the final design isn't what you expected but this is what it ended up being and if you really don't like it then by all means don't enter into the group buy on this one. Someday you find a group buy that is everything you wish or you could just go and buy a lyman 311316 and then you will have what you want.
Now one is saying that you have to enter into this group buy or anyone for that matter. I am sorry that it turned out to be something that you just can't stand but it is what it is. Next time maybe it will be just what you are looking for but maybe not there is no guarantees in this life.
I am looking at a group buy right now that isn't exactly what I wanted but it is 98% of what I want so I most likely will get in on it because I can make it work in the rifle I intend to use it in.

It was modified to make a plain base easier to make without having to make and additional cherry to get the job done.

I didn't apologize for anything. The design is what Blammer and I came up with and many agreed with the design and the only real change was that it ended up being a .314 diameter because we ended up with a very good mold designer and he hit my design tolerance dead in the middle.
It will work in the 32-20, 30-30,30-06 and quite a few other firearms and that was also on my mind when designing it.
I wanted something that was along the lines of the 311316 and had good lube grooves which is what I got. Like I said before sorry if it doesn't meet your idea of what it should have been but it was my choice on how it came out and those who spoke up when we were designing it. Never heard word one from you until now which is a little late as the design has been accepted and the tools made and now the buy is out there for those who want one those who don't do not have to buy.
I guess I really messed up and made a bullet no one will want from your chair but we will have to see just how it goes. Never said it was a exact copy of the 311316 never intended it to be such.

I am only honcho the 311316 gb. If money is an issue I can send your check back to you and then you can go buy the 311284 gb.
That is what is nice about a group buy you can either get in or not play or ask for your money back until the order goes in.
Let me know you wishes
I had thought with all the interest in this design and such it would have gone better then it is but then nothing does anymore.

It is easy to see that many here are overwhelmed with all the options constantly popping up! With Night Owl and our European connection (and still some waits on Lee) there is just a lot of stuff going on! For me, I'm also looking at a half dozen new Star sizing dies and some punchs too! I know it will all settle down eventually - its just a lot of moulds to keep track of right now.
I will be coming with a check - as I didn't see any rush I've been using the time to decide on what configuration I would make the best use of..... I'm thinking 3 gas checks and 2 plain and hollow point...? I just have to decide.

depending on case length and how much of the bullet is left out of the case and how much powder room this left. I would take the length of the 311316 bullet and see what it left me for powder and if it left enough I would go for it.

Guys
Sorry I am so slow getting back to you but real life has had me going. We had two kids that needed operations in other states and one had to go back and get his legs built. Now that is done.
As to the closing date it is I believe 8/17/09 and yes it will close on that date as NOE and I have been talking and they will run what ever number we get by that date so if you are sitting on the fence move one way or the other as time is running out.
We are very lucky that NOE is willing to run what ever number we get at the 15 mold number price. So if you want one get in touch as you have a little over a week left and then the order goes in.
NOE and I have learned a lot from this mold group buy and I would do another again anytime even with all the bumps that we have had to deal with.

I knew he would be a good addition to our mold makers list!
Thanks to all again for all that you have taught me on this trip to being a honcho and to all the honchos who have answered my dumb questions along the way.

I will let you know when I send the order in so that you can start waiting, drooling, and just bugging the post man/woman.

Just an update I have just put the orders together and have some missing info that I have sent pm's to those I need more infromation and as soon as I have that the order will go out in the mail.
Would have had this done sooner but the wife decided to redesign her van and it has messed up the house routine big time. Sorry for messing up but things are really moving forward and NOE is waiting very patiently so far for our order. I am the one who is impatient but that is me.

She will mend all right it is me and what it did to the insurance cost that has me on the edge?
Her van was finally totaled out and now the search is on for a replacement vehicle and dealing with the finance company to pay off the balance of the old loan and then get a new one with the economy and banks on the slide.
never ever dull around here, think kind of like animal house and a chinese fire drill all happening at the same time for around 16-18 hours a day and you have my house. Ha Ha but it does keep you on your toes.

Well, not to make light of your issues, but as my Mom always told me "this too will pass." I am sure you will find a vehicle - while the big banks may be struggling, the small town banks around here are still willing to loan.
Now we have fall coming on - the best time of the year for most of us......
Enjoy!

and those who got in on this mold
Sorry I have been so slow but this is the first time in over a week that I even have had a chance to sit down on the computer. I have been on the move getting kids to school, getting my truck fixed that still has to have some things done to it and then last week in the freezing ice and snow I went to Salt Lake City with one of the kids drove all night got things done and then drove all night to get back home so I could help the wife get some things done.
I have your molds and hope to do some testing this morning and then begin boxing and hopefully ship sometime this week and will post they are gone when I get them in the mail.
Again sorry life got in the way of getting the molds to you guys but I will do my best to get them to you asap.
thanks again for putting up with me as your honcho

I have never found molds to be so accurate to design and thank NOE for the excellent job.
So how did the testing go?
What was the alloy, temperature and what diameter did they drop at?
Did you do any mould prep?
How do the gas check fit?
Enquiring minds must know.

Dromia
Weren't you one of the one's who said just ship who cares about testing???
Well here is what I found
What was the alloy, temperature and what diameter did they drop at?
lead was as hot as my lee pot would get it, don't have a thermometer, the alloy was supposed to ww but after heating it up and some issues that arose I am not sure
dimensions were as follows
gc
base of .280-.284
driving band .312-.313
total length .634
wt 116.8 grains
pb
base .310
driving band .312-.313
total length .611
wt 114.7 grains
hp point
wt 113.31 w/gc
mold prep was to clean the molds with alcohol and then clean it out of the moulds
I used a 2, 3 4, 5, cavity plus one with the hollow point option.
all of your molds worked good mine has some issues that I have to figure out what went wrong. See testing is great!!!!!!!! If I had only tested mine I would have maybe sent them all back
Mine I did some things to that may have screwed up the test, I used kroil in the mould and this just might not be a good thing
also the smaller moulds accepted my Rcbs handle just fine the larger ones liked the lee 6 cavity mould handles
Gas checks on your moulds worked great snapped on just like they are supposed to again mine is another story
All moulds are in the mail so in a week for those of you in the states you should be getting a package
Dromia Yours should show up in 10 days what a pain, I really hope you get it so you can see just how nice the moulds are the biggest issue was the extra paper work to send it to you funny what they want, no big deal I would do it again if for no other reason but to see if they have changed anything
Let me know what you guys get with your casting as I stated my lead was supposed to ww but I am wondering if it is or not and if you get different and know for sure you have ww lead then I will know that I have almost 400 pounds of something different.

Yep I'm happy to take an NOE mould without testing, I've got few of theirs already and can testify to their quality.
Seeing as how you'd tried them out I was interested in your results, curiosity is the name of this game after all.
No renaging on my original wish to have them sent, hope that this is clear.
This is a fine boolit that I have in other makes, just wanted an NOE rendering as the reference.
Will give you a nod when it lands with moi.

Now if I can get some time and get mine to work like all the others I tested.
Now I am the one waiting to see what you guys get with your molds and knowing what lead you are using!!!

Pins are in the mail someplace tom and as soon as they get here they are their way to you. Sorry that they got missed at NOE but we have the issue under control.
Thanks again for allowing me to honcho this group buy.
Now I have to find time to figure out what is wrong with my moulds?? Glad it was mine that are acting strange as I have the patience to find out the issue and correct just because I am anal about things like that.
Can't wait to here how well they work for you guys so please to PM me or post so I can know how they work for you.

Maybe using kroil on an aluminum mold is what has yours acting strange.
Try multiple cleanings with alcohol, paint thinner, lacquer thinner, hot soapy water and anything else you can think of to try to get the kroil out of the mold.
Good Luck with that!

Glad to be of help!!
I just have one question, since I ordered one mould in each size offered, how do I tell them apart short of casting a couple from each and measuring the boolits to figure out the dimensions?
shdwlkr
11-16-2009, 04:57 AM
dominicfortune00
If you look real close at the base you will one is cut larger then the other. The larger base is plain base and the smaller one is gas checked.
hope this helps
dominicfortune00
11-16-2009, 06:11 PM
Yes that does help!
Oops, I forgot that I ordered one gas checked and one plain base.
I misremembered it as a dimensional difference like the 311440.
Thanks!

time to see if I can get my 1500 gal water leak fixed.
Yikes, that's a big water leak.
I'm betting that it is a small type leak that adds up over time; as I don't know anybody who has 1500 gallons of water sitting around in a tank.
Then again, I may be wrong.
shdwlkr
11-21-2009, 07:34 AM
Guys that was 1500 gals a day for something like 7 weeks until we found where it was leaking. Found it yesterday and after the backhoe dug up line because it wasn't where it was supposed to be we found out that there is two lines running into different parts of the house and almost didn't reconnect the one line because we didn't think it was going to the house. So now $1000 less money I hope most of water issues have been fixed. Oh my water bill is around $600 unless I can get the water company to cut me a break as I didn't get the use of all that water. Life is never dull in my world.
We have been cleaning the house and painting getting ready for the one daughter and her family who are coming for thanksgiving. We are still lucky enough to have one parent left and she is 90 and we are so happy to spend this thanksgiving with her as she is a hoot to have around when she starts talking about what life was when she was younger. We know nothing about hard times but we are getting ready to know.
This current Pres wants us to live like he did in Kenya and thinks it is just fine that we do so.
