I have two questions, and then I'll discuss the background information:
1. My .44 mag mould is a Lyman single cavity, and it works fine with my 6-cavity Lee handles. If I buy a Lyman 4 cavity mould, will it also work with my Lee handles, or do I need to buy the Lyman handles?
2. I am considering buying the 4-cavity Lyman 45630 mould. Are there other mould brands I should consider?
As background, I've had a heck of an ordeal trying to get my Lee TL452-200-SWC cast bullets (.45ACP 200 gr SWC) to feed correctly in my ParaOrdnance and have reached the point that I am going to dump the mold and get a new mould.
When discussing this topic over at The HighRoad, a number of people suggested I go with the H&G #68 or the Lyman 452630 design.
An online person sent me 125 sample boolits from the Lyman 452630 mould and they fed flawlessly. I discovered there are substantial differences in the shape of the boolit nose between the Lyman and the Lee designs. The Lee mould has a much shorter nose, requiring an OAL in the 1.160 range instead of the 1.250 range for the Lyman design. My gun simply can't feed a cartridge that short.
Seeing as I cannot see myself dropping the kind of cash that an H&G costs these days, I am pretty close to ordering the Lyman 4 cavity mould (although I am concerned about the complaints I've heard about the "New Lyman" with out of round boolits and undersized moulds . . .). However, if there others I should consider, better to tip me off now instead of after I buy.
