I'm thinking about removing the GC from my LEE C309-120-R mold for my 30 Carbine. I tried shooting the bullets without GC and had poor results. I was wondering, since I use LLA for lube, can I remove one or both of the lube grooves also? Would this make the bullet too heavy without the grooves, or should I just remove the GC area? I would be using WW with added tin for an alloy. I've bought commercial bullets for the Carbine that did not have GC that worked well. Their alloy could have been much harder.

What are your thoughts?

What do you mean by poor results? Did they work well with gas checks on?

They work well with GC.

I'm looking to save a step and not install GC and shoot a plain base boolit.

Go ahead and remove the GC, but I would not touch the grooves. The grooves help smear lube the length of the barrel.
