I found a smoothbore barrel, it has a tang and nipple that looks welded on. the bore is .720. Is this a shotgun? I can't find any markins except a sn stamped under the breechplug.

It is basically a 12 ga. How long is it? There were some interesting imports about 20 years ago that this could be. Other than that with what you have siad ????

It could certainly be called a Shotgun if loaded with shot. Since it's a smoothbore of .72 caliber, it would be appropriate to use 12 guage shot wads. A patched undersized round ball would work too, with all of this assuming that your barrel is in good condition and that you assembled it into a working firearm.

Is the breech plug and nipple welded in! Don't know if I would trust this, at least with what I'm envisioning. Does it have any choke in it, run a tight patch jag combo in it and feel for constriction. If it has this I would call it a shot gun.
