Went to a Gun Show today, about 140 tables. Not one mold for sale in the whole place. Do you think the j-word bullet reloaders are catchong on?

Of the several shows Hornet and I have attended, only 2 had any molds. We're going to a big one tomorrow and we'll both be looking for molds. Let you know if we find any.

And yes, I do believe that fellows that have used j-words are either getting back into casting or are taking it up. I did.

I rarely see moulds at gun show anymore and then it's just a few. I can remember years ago, there was most always at least one guy with a table full of them. I think most went the evil bab route.

Same out my way. I haven't seen the old mould guy for a few years now.
I bought a few (not enough ) moulds from him and was always impressed by how well he knew his business. No rusty junk either! All the moulds were carefully packed in divided wooden trays and oiled to prevent rust.

The older I get, the more good old days there are to miss.

Got a guy that comes to the shows here in So Cal.

He'll usually have 20 to 30 molds in sad to fair condition with one or two like new.

He really doesn't know his market and partners up with a couple other guys on a table , Considering the price of a table these days I don't blame him, but the last three shows I went to he had the same molds out each time and wanted to much for them.

As an example he had a 429421 4 banger, no handles, and wanted $85.00 for it. I suspect if he took some steel wool to the rust he might have stood a fair chance of selling but so far he hasn't bothered.

The auction sites are getting pretty pathetic on selection too. The ones that you find are plain vanilla at manufacturers list pricing. There are a few decent ones, but no real bargains. Our own "Swappin' & Sellin" boards is getting pretty thin at times too. Why I remember the day...

Midway and Graf's have been staying out of most molds of late i canceled on a 45 mold from Midway after 45 days. The quality of a Lee 38 wc mold I got in april also made me decide to cancel the back-order.

J-word = boolit condums ..... Through the years I have been to a load of gun shows , and have seen very few molds at any of them. There were a few of the old molds around with the guys that specialized in older weapons, but not much if you were looking for a selection of used molds.:coffee:

Well Hornet and I went to a gun show today and as I had guessed, there were nearly zero molds available. We did find ONE single cavity Lee mold. It appeared to be one of the close-outmolds from Lee. Primers were around but not a lot and at $75/1000 we figure they can keep them.

I just received a Lee 45cal mould from Midway last night. Ordered it Monday. Machine work looks good. I will try it this weekend and report back.

Tried out my new Lee mold this weekend. Straight WWs. I cast hot with a Lee, 700* Mold prep was blasting with carb cleaner and lubing the alignment pins with anti seize. No smoking the mold, just dipped in the lead till up to temp and started casting. Good fillout and they dropped out on opining the blocks, a few took a very light tap on the hinge bolt. One complaint, the 230 gfr bullet weighs 246gr! Oh well, nothings is perfect!

What diameter are they dropping at?

What diameter are they dropping at?

.451 in on direction and .452 in the other. Close enough to shoot without sizing.

Natchez seems to have more molds in stock than the other suppliers do. Their website makes it difficult to find them, but they are there.

I have come across molds lately at gunshows but the prices were way out of line. I used to get some real bargains on molds at gunshows but anymore as soon as I start negotiating the price down the seller usually responds with "do you know what these are getting on Ebay". To be perfectly honest, if I were going to sell a bullet mold I'd take it to Ebay before the gunshow. As long as there are buyers willing to pay the ridicules prices on Ebay we will probably see less at gunshows.

The guys at the gun shows by me don't know what they are talking about wen it comes to molds. They might have a Lyman 2-cav for $35 & right next to it a Lee 2-cav for $45. The logic being that the Lee has handles on it, so therefore it is worth more. When I tell them that the Lee is a $25 mold brand new, they look at me like I just urinated in their baby's milk bottle or something.

Used molds are very hard to find in my area and are usually priced prohibitively. I have only found a half dozen that were decent buys in the last five years. $35 dollars for a two hole Lyman mold! Hmmm! They usually go for ten to fifteen dollars more in this area. I should say that they are priced for that but I don't see many sold. Most casters in this area seem to specialize in the Sharps cartridges and pretty well ignore the rest. In the last five years I have run across perhaps a dozen used molds other than the Lee versions and I have purchased about half of them. I am happy to say that among them were two Modern Bond double cavity that each cast two different boolits. My newest old is a Saeco double cavity mold that appears to be new. We don't have a very large population in this part of the world but I would have thought that there would be more molds in circulation. Ah well! Neil

I have seen things on auction sites sell for 20-30% above retail? Several years ago I inquired about the price of something on display in a shop, which wasn't priced (against state law), the shopkeep replied that " ON E-BAY, it could go for up to..." I hope it sold on E-BAY. Why did that shop go under? I wonder if the auction compulsion is like playing slot machines for hours on end?
