I was wanting to get my loads close to the XM193 load and also the the load for the 62 grain green tipped AP round.

I measured powder from new rounds I had and this is what they measured.

55 grain XM193 = 28 grains of powder

62 grain AP round = 27.5 grain of powder.

Does anyone know what powder is currently used for the milspec rounds mentioned above? Please don't guess. Things I have seen on the net seem to indicate it is WC846 or WC844. But I can not find anything that says yes this is this type or that type.

Reason I am asking is I found a heck of a deal on 3000 62 gr AP bubllets and also the same number of M193 bullets.

.. remember that military ammo is loaded to a certain specification. In other words, they test each new lot of powder and adjust the load until it meets the desired parameters.

That being said, the army TM on small arms ammo, last change Dec 96 says the following:

M193 ball, projectile weight 56 grs
powder, WC844 28.5 grs
velocity 3250
pressure 52,000 psi

M855 ball (green tip)
powder WC844 , 28.5 grs OR
CMR170 26.5 grs
velocity 3025
pressure 55,000psi
