In this age of "political correctness" it's considered bad conduct, or maybe even illegal, for LEO's to profile. However, just between us, I would hope that they do. If my beat was a district where 80% of the crimes were committed by a certain minority, would I be wise if I spent my time watching everyone else? If 97% of terrorist activities in the last twenty five years were committed by militant, arabic, muslims would I waste my time watching Swede's, Norwegians, or Finns who have committed almost no crime whatsoever? I would hope not.

The last time I flew I was traveling from Missoula, MT to NW Arkansas. I am a bald headed 67 year old Scandahoovian with some German. Not exactly in the high crime profile or on a high crime travel route. But, between the entrance door to the airport and the gate to the plane I was searched three times including taking off my shoes. Looking for a fuse I guess. A total waste of time.

So, LEO's chime in here and let me know what actually happens on the street.

What they call profiling now use to be just good old police work in the past. I will only note that after our state enacted very strict profiling laws in 2001 they got ignored in a hurry on 9/11. I received a call from the State Patrol to check out all Arab looking people gong by or over the Dam and when I asked how that fit our new profiling laws I was told not to log the stops. I'm glad I am into my KMA years.
