I am Back in the 41 game agian. In my high school days had a 4" S&W 657 should have never parted with that one. But now have a 4 3/4" blackhawk and a box of 210gr. LFN Gaschecks. Going to start with an old load I had used before which was 10gr. Unique. Thought I would see what other input was out here. So whats your favorite load.

I currently have 2 Ruger .41 mags. a Super BH Bisley Hunter with 7 1/2" barrel and a plain jane BH with a 6 1/2" barrel. I have experimented with the following powders: IMR 4227, H110, 2400, and SR 4756. Cast bullets used were: 220 SWC, 240 Keith, 255 WFN, and 265 TC (all GCs). Use mostly WW, but occasionally add 20% linotype if fill problems occur. Bullets are usually air cooled, but will heat treat sometimes as well. Have tried bullets sized at .410 & .411".

I'm not into plinking, so I don't really mess with the light loads. My loads need to be accurate at big game hunting velocities. The powder that has been the most accurate across the board for me is IMR 4227 with 2400 not too far behind. H110 is ok with certain applications, but SR 4756 has not done well for me yet. Specifically 19.4 gns of IMR 4227 w/240 Keith is my favorite load.

I have used a few different lubes with RCBS working the best. I have made up a batch of FWFL and will be using that when my current stock runs out.

I am like Rugerfan--mostly hunting type loads--the following have worked well in lots of different .41s
use at your discretion;
22 gr. 296 220 gr Kieth / 230 kieth / 240 wlngc wwlpp-- have taken several deer with this load
AA9 has done well with the same range of bullets at the 18 gr level + or-
800x has done very well with the same range of bullets around 12/12.5 gr-- 800x will also let you load down very well as well as up with this range of bullets
I have used bullets heavier 250 to 305 so if interested I have loads for those also

With the 210-220 grain PB cast bullets, 8 gr. Unique, 6 gr. 231 or Red dot, 12 gr. Bluedot, and 10gr. 4756 have all given good accuracy in one or more of my 4 revolvers and 2 contender barrels. None of these are particularly hot. For heavy loads, the powders mentioned by the earlier posters give the best results.

In my 4 5/8" BH a 210 gr. SWC PB over 8 gr. of Unique gives just short of 1000 fps and excellent accuracy. In a 6 1/2" Mod 657 a 250 gr.CPWFN GC over 13 gr. of AA#7 for 1225 fps works well. Those are my two favorite "walking in the woods" guns and loads.

In a Performance Center Mod. 657 6" a 170 gr. Sierra over 8.4 gr. of Unique gave one hole groups at 25 yards when I mounted a 2X Leupold. I'll be trying that one in a few silhouette matches this year (the 25 to 100 yd. hunter type).

The .41's are my favorite calibers. [/IMG]

With Lee 210TL and 240FB Unique has been my mainstay. It simply works well and 8 grains is on the money for both boolits.
Still need to experiment with heavier cast, but H110 provided decent groups with 265gr GC.

I tried using some, 220gr. Action Bullets cast pb swc with 12.5 gr. Bluedot, 20gr. H110 and 10gr. Unique. I was getting patterns not groups 4" and up at 25yds. Loads were assembled using W-W cases And W-W large pistol primers. Thought it may be the Bullet so am trying the 210 LFN GC and see if things improve. Funny thing with the 12.5 gr load of Bluedot was the velocities I was expecting 1200 to 1250fps with the 220gr SWC pb, according to my manuals, but what I got were very consistant velocities from 1412 to 1433 fps. Chrono was set up at 12' on a 43 degree day. Either I got a very fast lot of bluedot or something else is amiss. Do any of you know does Bluedots burning rate very that much?

In my FA 41 mag, for hunting I shoot 21.6gr H-110 and a 265gr LFNGC, and for silhouette I shoot 13.5gr SR 4756 and a 210gr FMJ.

I typically use 12.5 BlueDot with the 220 Lyman. Velocity is substantial, and the pressure is just about normal. It has been the most cost effective powder for the speed, and just accurate enough. I haven't shot the 41 enough lately to verify what I am saying here to be a current recommendation. BlueDot had been historically temperature sensitive. ... felix

In a couple M57s, a M58 and a M28 I had coverted to .41 I found the following to be most useful;

210 gr cast SWCs with 8.5 gr Unique would duplicate the R-P lead SWC load at 1005 fps in a 4" barrel.

The Lee 410-195 over 5 gr Bullseye was a good target load at 750 fps.

The Sierra 210 gr HC over 20.5 gr H110 went 1160 fps in the 4" while the Hornady 210 gr went 1392 fps in a 6".

In my Ruger Bisley with 7 1/2" barrel I favor the following;

215 gr SWC GC over 9 gr Unique for 1192 fps.

Lee 410-175 over 5 gr Bullsey for 857 fps.

Hornady 210 XTP over H110 for 1500 fps. This load is over max for the S&W but fine in the Ruger. Since I no longer have any S&Ws this poses no problems for me. With both the S&W and Ruger you may want to stick with the S&W load.

90% of my shooting in 41 Magnum is done with 7.5 grains of Unique or 8.0 grains of Herco under a 210 grain cast SWC of some kind. These are digestible very safely by S&W and Ruger revolvers, and can be shot all day. More of a "41 Special" type of load.

Hey Felix, I just looked in my catalog and don't find any Lyman .41 moulds. Did they stop making them?

Hmm. I just checked both Midsouth and Midway. Neither show a Lyman mould in .41 mag.

supposedly Lyman 410610 is still in production??? You can find them on e-bay sometimes--there is a Saeco mold 220 pb fn on now and i just got a really nice 220K Saeco off of e-bay-- also the Lyman 410459 220 K shows up from time to time but not right now--for what ever it is worth i have normally had trouble with bevel base bullets-- so i stay away from them. also I have not killed anything with the 210 GD but boy do they shoot well out of my Redhawks--glad to read the good report on them

I've just checked Midway's website & they are now showing the 410610 in stock with 2 available.

Yesterday I ran some Lee 240 SWCs with 7.5 grains of Universal through my Model 58. Shot nicely to POA. Pleasant to shoot, unlike some of the heavier loads of 2400 with this boolit. Probably prudent to stay with gentler loads with the 58 as I do not want it to field-strip itself.
