Does NOT like my Ranch dog bullets, at least with the load that I tried today....[smilie=b:

It's a Savage Model 12 BVSS-S and will shoot J bullets all day long into one hole, but I got a pattern with the Ranch Dog bullets. And I mean a Big one, too. I was shooting 40 grains of H335 and the bullets went everywhere. Just for my curiosity I shot three of my jacketed 168 grain bullets into one hole, so I know nothing was loose.
I'll have to try a different load. My 30-06 A.I. will shoot the same bullet all day long, and if I ever get some dies for my 30/30, I suspect that it will shoot them too.... Oh well, back to the bench!

Did you make sure that ALL of the copper was gone from the Savage barrel before shooting cast? Sometimes it makes a difference. I get the best results from 308 at around 2100-2200 fps.

Try someplace between 16 and 20 gr. ov 2400 under the RD, with Lar's red lube and sized to 311. Mine shoots into under 3 inch from a Stevens, and under 2 in my Sav 12 with 17 gr. Good luck!

I hand lubed some of the bullets with Lars Red, but sized them to .309 through a Lee sizer. They will be the next ones to go down range.

These first boolits were dipped lubed w/ LLA and shot as cast, with a gas check.

I was just amazed at how they went everywhere...

You did not give a weight for your bullet, but 40 grains of H335 is a mighty charge for any cast bullet in a .308. If you are shooting air cooled WW, I'd be mildly surprised if they stayed inside of two feet. Assuming AC WW and a bullet of about 170 grains, 20 grains of H335 would be a starting point.

I weighed some last night, and the came out to 176.6 gr., lubed, sized and checked...
And no, they were lucky to hit the target... and this was at 33 yards... almost looked like they were starting to keyhole just a bit. I never had such awful results.....

It's surprising to me because of the results I can get with cast and my 30-06 with other powders, but mostly IMR3031.

Live and learn, and occasionally get humbled by poor results.....

Try a load that keeps your velocity around 1600 fps or less.

That's a pretty stiff load for a 308 with cast. Try starting around 25 and work up or better yet get some Varget and use about 28 grs.
