i have a 311440 lyman mould that drops bootiots at 314,5 .
and i would like to size to 309 or 310 is this to much to size them down to ,
thay are heard to size'.
the alloy is 2.5%tin 4%altomy 93.5 range lead i now know that is to hard but my math was off and i have a bunch already cast up.
these will be used targrts .
the reason for the high tin is i bought 150 lbs of foundry lead .:castmine:

Takes more pressure on sizing but can be done. I just sized .434" down to .430" using WW in my Lyman 450. Not always best for great accuracy, as mimimal sizing is better. The bullet hardness will make a difference. Hard alloy, harder sizing.

A little harder to size, maybe, but shouldn't be too bad. I once sized some .459" 45/70 boolits to .454" in a Lee push-through so I could shoot them in my .45 Colt, it wasn't too bad and made the bases very sharp! Just remember that lead alloys work-soften, I don't know how much the extra "working" will matter to your particular alloy, but for plinking velocities it shouldn't matter that much.

Not too hard, just harder than necessary, maybe. Excess sizing may close up lube grooves and lengthen the boolit, and it is hard on the lube/sizer and the operator - but can be done. Probably helps to pre-lube with mule-snot before running through the L/S.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It will size down, just will be a bit tough on your arm. Don't forget like mentioned above, it will work soften your alloy. So you might look at your load data, and adjust accordingly if you have problems with leading.

Unless you have a nose first sizing rig, forget about taking a 311440 down that far. Even with normal sizing, you tend to expand (bump) the nose so much that it won't chamber when loaded.

This is the one drawback to the 311440./beagle
