Went to an auction today and came home with a Model 94 in .32 Special. Just what I needed -- one additional caliber to cast and load for. I assume I'll need something in the .322 range. Did a search on ebay and found a Winchester mold for the .32WCF! You'd think that'd be perfect, but for $74 for a single cavity mold, I guess I'll pass. So what should I get in stead?

I use Lee's 170gr .323 Roundnose that they sell for the 8mm Mauser. It shoots well through my Win 94 chambered in 32 Win. I size it at .323 and shoots just fine. And a good double cabity mold will run you around $25 with handles included to boot.

lyman and others should have a ton of molds to fit your bbl measure what ya got and make sure it will feed.

The 32-170-FN RCBS works well for me in a old 1949 Marlin .336./beagle

I have this same mold for My M94 in .32 Win spcl.
It is accurate and works on deer just fine

+1 on Beagle. It's been around for a long time and it flat works. Start with 170 gr 30-30 data if you cannot find any loads for it.

Your other option for a flat nose is the Ranch Dog 32-170-FN. Michael has taken hogs and deer already with this one (see ranchdog web site). I have not gotten mine to shoot as well, YET, but I'm still working on it, but it ain't shabby.

Both have a good meplat.

Agree with Beagle and Sundog,The RCBS is all you need for the 32W.

I have two rifles and only one mold; the RCBS 32-170-FN. Works good. Not going to spend any time trying any others.

Let me join the chorus for the RCBS 32-170. I can send you some if you want to try before you buy. My 32 SP is a vintage Marlin 336A with Ballard rifling with a bore that slugs a tight .319"

Thanks for the replies! Looks like the RCBS 32-170 is the way to go. I appreciate the offer, John, but I'll be patient until I get my mold.

Now to find some brass!

Brass, no problem. Just get 30-30. ... felix

Felix is right. I've got exactly 19 cases marked 32 Win Spl...131 others are marked 30-30 with a black sharpie X across the headstamp.

RCBS mold, no problem with necked up 30-30. Fine cartridge.

Cheers,

Looks like the RD mold is still available until the stock is gone or June 30th whichever comes first.
.323 170fp gc 2 cavity.

I'd jump on this while you can, as it will work with Marliin 336, Win 94 or 8mm Mauser for those who like to plink with the old war horses.

I also bought a bag of 50 Win .32ws cases from www.midwayusa.com

I have also plinked with this round using 8gr of Unique under the RD 323 bullet in a Pre64 Win 94. Lots of fun at 50 yards.

I wondered if 30-30 cases could be necked up to .32. Thanks for the heads up! I don't have a 30-30 so case ID won't be a problem.

As far as the RD mold goes -- guess I've developed a bias against tumble lubing. Not sure where that came from as I've never tried it. Reading Veral Smith maybe? I know lots of guys swear by it, but. . . Think I'll go with RCBS. Sure appreciate all the replies, though!

I looked at the RD mould. I'm not a fan of LEE moulds, who I understand make RD's moulds, but for $20 I had to buy it! I have a nice NEI 180gr for my M64 32 Spcl, but what's $20. Currently, around here, thats 500 primers!
Who say's it has to be tumble lubed?
