There seems to be some interest in the grooveless design I have been experimenting with. So, here are some pics of what Ihave been doing. Perhaps with some input and fresh ideas, a decent and workable mold can be developed.

I'll start with my 'picture perfect' as cast boolit.

The mold that it came out of.

OK, this is supposed to be about the design of the boolit and its mold!

This is not the same boolit as in the first post. This one was designed to fit the throat and unsized case mouth with only the lube holding it firm. It seats against the 'dough-nut'. As is, it should probably not be used in the magazine. (I haven't tried that).

Can we have some more photos of the mould please? I am intrigued.

Same here...I am intrigued also.

What alloy and lube do you use?....

Well, it's pretty basic. I'll have to take some more pics for you folks.

In the meantime, this is the hollow point casting 'sprew funnel'. (One of two).

An earlier mold with the gas check pressed to a set depth to regulate the weight.

With this system I can even fit the gas check backwards like a shuttle cock.

A clearer view of the 'hollow point'.

Another hollow point alongside a 'non-hollow point' and the sprew.

The biggest problem at this stage is mass production. Without a proper set up or an easier to use mold, casting is slow.

The Lube I use is what I call 'waxy-lube' which is nothing more than candle wax mixed with regular boolit lube and STP.

You can see that there is no lead smearing on this boolit.

I keep it molten in an electic pot I made and I simply dip the loaded boolit into that and let the boolit warm up then drip off the excess. Whith a paper seating cup (which I use for my hornet and j-word bullets) I let the molten waxy-lube soak up into the cup and that seals and hold the bullet in place. That system is not 'strong' enough for the 303 Brit. But with that first boolit, patched up like that, the seating is real snug in the case and the molten waxy-lube seals it (and probably strengthens it too). The plain cast bullet holds in place OK but can be pulled out by hand.

Oh, I forgot mention that the boolit is tapered. That allows for easy removal from the mold and a reasonable fit in the throat.

The paper cup seated hornet bullet.
